On our recent visit to Jawai we had some wonderful sightings of the leopard. We were lucky to find a beautiful leopardess within the golden hour that made our photography experience quite enjoyable.

Was sorting out some images on a hard drive when I found some pictures that I took a few years ago in Africa and thought I should share. Have fond memories from the trip. We saw almost all the species that we were seeking out.

Did some birding on Christmas at Surajpur Wetlands with .manral and . Even though the day started out foggy it did eventually clear up.

Surajpur Wetlands seemed to be much better organised than i remember a few years ago but there also seemed to be not as populated in terms of bird numbers as well as diversity of species as I have seen before. Nevertheless it turned out to be a great morning. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

It's been close to a year since I visited a tiger reserve and finally am heading to Ranthambhore to accompany a guest. Looking forward to spending the next few days in the tiger reserve....Camera Tigger finger seems to be all excited!! ☺️

A couple of years ago I was trying out the Nikon 400mm f2.8 lens and found this tiger very early in the morning when it was near dark...my first thought was that there was no way that I can nail a half decent shot but now I know the true value of this amazing lens - it's simply outstanding!!

Thought that my first July post should be about a park that remains partly open through the monsoons.

Here is hoping that the popularity of this park does not take a dip with changes of rules such as closure on Wednesdays and discontinuation of half day and full day safaris. The government should realise the trouble that they caused by implementing such changes without much notice...considering permits can be bought a year in advance, maybe rules should be announced that much time in advance so that no one is inconvenienced.

The signature spiders make excellent subjects for macro photography. Here are some fun facts about these beautiful arachnids:

They are also known as writing spiders.

These spiders are renowned for their intricate and beautiful web designs. The webs typically feature a dense zigzag pattern called a stabilimentum, which is thought to play a role in attracting prey or providing camouflage.

They have strikingly colored abdomens, often featuring a combination of yellow, orange, and black markings. These vibrant colors serve as a warning to potential predators, signaling that the spider is venomous and should be avoided.

They also tend to hold their legs together in pairs to create the illusion of a four legged creature to the potential prey.

While signature spiders possess venom to subdue their prey, their bite is generally not considered dangerous to humans. Their venom is primarily intended to incapacitate small insects, and their bites are usually no worse than a bee sting for humans.

Signature spiders produce multiple types of silk, each serving a different purpose. The radial lines of their webs are made of non-sticky silk, while the spiral threads that capture prey are sticky and coated with venom.

Next time you are in a forest do make it a point to go looking for one of these beauties.

The endangered Great Indian Bustard is an amazing species to see as well as to photograph. Unfortunately their population which at one time was distributed all over western India is now found in very few pockets. I thoroughly enjoyed watching and photographing them in Jaisalmer.

Not having travelled for a couple of months for wildlife photography I decided to explore Okhla Bird Park over the last weekend. As the weather has warmed up quite a bit I was not expecting winter migrants to still be around and to my surprise I found 4-5 of these colourful feathered friends chirping in the thickets.

On my recent trip to Bori I was happy to get decent pictures of the Jungle Cat in the Churna grasslands. Even though I was under the weather through most of my trip and missed my safaris i was excited to see a jungle Cat with two kittens at Bori Safari Lodge itself. I don't think I have ever had so many Jungle Cat sightings.

I recently had the opportunity to explore Bori with Bori Safari Lodge. It was nice to see such a wonderful landscape with such great wildlife movement. Locations such as Mallupura from where villages have been relocated are so scenic and picturesque. Had a wonderful experience with Bori Safari Lodge which can very easily be combined with Reni Pani experience.

Pench tiger reserve has always been good for me to sight leopards in the wild. On my recent visit we found this handsome fellow relaxing on a rock. Though it initially seemed a bit skittish it soon settled down and gave us lots of photo opportunities.

Such an incredible destination so close to Agra yet missed by so many travellers. From ancient temples to cattle fairs, colonial history to a wildlife haven it has everything. Had a truly inspirational stay at Mela Kothi last winter.

Although permits are difficult to come by one of my favourite wilderness experience is night stay inside Corbett Tiger Reserve. Regardless of if you are a birder or a landscape photographer or someone seeking an amazing night sky or searching for the elusive big cats, this park has everything. Can't wait to be back!!

Last season had excellent sightings of the Grassland Tigress and her cubs at Corbett.

I love photographing wild tigers in grasslands as they blend in so well and they peek, peer and stalk in this landscape so beautifully.
