Tungnath Temple is a sacred Hindu temple located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, India. It is situated at an altitude of 3,680 meters (12,073 feet) above sea level, making it the highest Shiva temple in the world. Tungnath Temple is one of the Panch Kedar temples, which are considered to be the holiest pilgrimage sites dedicated to Lord Shiva in the Himalayas.The temple is believed to be more than 1000 years old and has a rich history and mythology associated with it. According to legend, Tungnath is the place where the arms of Lord Shiva appeared after he self-manifested as a bull at the famous Kedarnath Temple, which is located nearby. The temple is also mentioned in the ancient Hindu scriptures like the Mahabharata and the Skanda Purana.The temple itself is a small, ancient structure made of stone and wood, and it is open for darshan (worship) from April to November, depending on weather conditions. The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva, and it is believed that a visit to Tungnath Temple can bestow blessings of strength, peace, and devotion upon the devotees.
