As the cold wave takes over many parts of the country, we’re nestled in a slice that still boasts of the warmth of the sun while embracing cool winds.

Our migratory visitors never let the intimidating silence of the winter season win and the blossiming flora serves a vibrant contrast to the mist and fog.

We take walks, loung, and eat in the lap of nature, admiring the birds resting atop the branches, butterflies celebrating with the flowers, peculiar insects spanning the earth, and wildlife soaking in the sun as we ride through the dense forest.

At Nature’s Nest, winter still boasts of beautiful colors and experiences, awaiting your presence to elevate the celebration of beginning a new year!

At Nature's Nest, the bounty of Western Ghats engulfs us. We consider it our blessing that we get to share with all our guests. 🌺

But, it is also our passion and duty to give back and keep nature thriving. Over the years, we have built programs and taken actions that have aided our ecosystem. 🦉

Swipe to take a walk through our progress:

1. Young kids participate in our programs focussed on conservation and nature. They learn while observing real projects. 👫🏻
2. A Wild Dog taking a dip in the water from the waterhole in the conservation hotspot. An effort that hopes to help our wildlife thrive.🐕
3. A leopard frequents our conservation hotspot regularly 🐆
4. Gaurs frequent the waterhole almost daily to quench their thirst as the waterhole is the closest to the grazing grounds. 🐃

When you visit, we would love to guide you through our conservation journey. Through learning, spreading awareness, and contributing in any way possible, we can help preserve nature's abundant magic. ✨

this amazing work from a couple weeks ago. We love hearing about program that hope to make Tourism more responsible.

We were delighted to participate in the collaborative workshop titled 'Mainstreaming Biodiversity into Coastal & Marine Tourism in Goa', organised by the department and and discuss an issue we are deeply passionate about and strive to address through our Boat Operator Partnership Program.

We were grateful also to have the President of the Sinquerim Boat Owners Association join the discussion and share the challenges they face in transforming their practices into being more wildlife friendly.

Inclusive representation and support is key to enabling any kind of meaningful long term change on the water. Indigenous communities are faced with multiple stressors not the least of which is a demanding market! However, you can make a difference by choosing to travel consciously and sensitively, with respect towards local communities and wildlife & pay fairly for responsible experiences - our choices can enable operators to feel empowered to follow responsible tourism practices.

We thank & the dept for the opportunity to share our experience working on the ground to enable responsible marine wildlife watching practices in collaboration with our boat operator partners. We also thank all our guests, from individuals, to travel companies, schools and corporates for choosing knowledge based experiences and enabling conservation action for Goa's incredible marine & coastal wildlife and ecosystems.

Together, change is possible! 🐬♥️🐢🐳🌊🐙🦀

Laterite plateaus are a treasure trove of biodiversity with several species of flora and fauna.

Socorro plateau is one of Goa's less explored plateaus and harbors great ecological diversity.

Monsoons are the best time to experience the transformation from a dull looking landscape to a world full of life.

You will come across seasonal flowering plants, indian bull frog, lantern flower, ground orchids, dragonflies, damselflies, stick insects and so on.

Due to tourists perception of Goa being a beach destination, most feel visiting Goa during monsoons is a wasted break. However, this is very much a misconception! 😋

With the monsoons heading in, the weather is very pleasant and all the surroundings turn lush green especially the hinterlands of Goa. There are many seasonal streams, springs and waterfalls that arise giving adding to the beauty.
If you're an adventurous person, who likes exploring the less explored places this might be the best time to do so! ❤️

For this season, Soul Travelling has curated multiple experiences which really embrace the monsoon vibe of the state and take you right at the foothills of the Western Ghats.
With amazing adventures, meals, heritage and cultural experiences there are expansive views of the hinterlands 😍

📍 If you're planning your trip to Goa this monsoons, don't forget to save this post! Share it someone who loves exploring during the monsoons

Pausache Dis (Monsoon in Goa).

If prayers can move mountains, it can also open heavens. Or so we Goans believe. Like the rest of the country that has varied rituals to invoke the heavens to shower us with rain, Goa has its rituals too. A popular one sees natives carrying stones or statues of St Anthony of Padua. A popular litany/ prayer being "Saiba mhojea Sant Anton, Deva lagim magon paus ghal, paus ghal, paus ghal.’ (My lord St Anthony, intercede with God for rain)".

In the northern village of Aldona, locals would walk in a procession to the statue
of St Anthony at Corjuem Fort and offer prayers. Not surprisingly, folks from the Hindu faith too would join the procession. A similar ritual was followed in the village of Asanora. In south Goa, the feet of the saint's statue are dipped in a water body. On June 13, the feast is celebrated in a unique way in Loutolim, the faithful float a "petition candle" around the statue of the saint. Of course, the style of singing differs between, let's say Bardez and Salcette. The former prefers an abbreviated version whereas the Salcette-kars, prolong their invocations. And not surprisingly, Tiswadi follows a mix of the two!

But why a stone, carried on the head? Experts opine that the stone represents sins committed in the past and hence one carries the burden on their head as a way to acknowledge and repent their sins. Interestingly, apart from being the patron saint of lost objects, St Anthony is the patron saint of the environment.

Every year on Ashadi Ekadashi, the eleventh lunar day of the Hindu month of Ashadha, the village of Marcel celebrates a unique traditional festival called Chikal Kalo to commemorate the childhood antics of Bal Krishna.

The festival dates back to over 400 years and is believed to have moved to Marcel, from Chorao, along with the temple, during the Portuguese rule. Though the villagers cannot really trace back the exact year the festival commenced, they celebrate it with great fervour, year after year, by rolling in the mud and playing traditional games.

Join us on June 30th, 2023, to experience this very unique festival with the locals of the village! ❤️
