Suraj Gurukul We envision this Gurukul to be a place where knowledge can be pursued without any constraints and inh Whether it is really something we are interested in?

We are a group of seekers who are trying to understand our role in the cosmic play. We believe the best way to learn about ourselves is to go back to schools and look at the world afresh through the unabridled eyes of children. To test our own convictions, and to seek clarity of thought and ideas, we are executing our own approach to the road to reality through education. We envision this Gurukul

to be a place where knowledge can be pursued without any constraints and inhibitions. The basic requisites of learning are: attitude, imagination and application. To start with attitude, the first question we ask is why should we study anything? Is it worth investing so much time? How is it beneficial to our survival and existence? Why study physics or why study anything at all? Before the process of learning begins, we need to be clear in our minds in regards to the aforementioned questions. Our goal would be to learn things through experience; to actually use them in our lives and not in the worlds of books. In modern times, we have access to enormous amount of data and information. This information when put in practice leads to wisdom. In the process of our pursuit to know, whatever we learn can be applied and verified. All we need to do is to explore the world with a skeptical and scientific attitude where assertions are tested before acceptance. Everything written in a book may not be true after all! Our aim is to let students explore and find the answers for themselves. The whole enterprise does depend on the assumption that the students have come here to learn out of their interests and nothing else. Even if this is not true, we believe that nature is wondrous enough that if the student is exposed to this beauty, it will eventually capture his imagination and he is bound to be motivated!

The most delicious day smile emoticon
March 14 is celebrated as ”Pi Day” (because the date resembles 3.14). The official celebration begins at 1:59 p.m., to make an appropriate 3.14159 when combined with the date. Albert Einstein was born on Pi Day (3/14/1879) in Ulm Wurttemberg, Germany.

Math Stack is a deck of playing cards with mathematical artwork on the faces. The makers call it "a potent and effective learning tool". I'm not convinced about that, but they are so pretty! So pre...

Know your constants:
The Euler-Mascheroni constant is the limiting difference between the harmonic series and natural logarithm. It is denoted by the greek letter gamma. There is a prime number version of the Euler-Mascheroni constant known as the Meissel Mertens constant, denoted by M, which is the difference between harmonic series and natural logarithm of natural logarithm given for a prime number p less than or equal to n.

Math's rendezvous with American history:

"The number 'e' has an infinite number of digits to the right of the decimal point. For those familiar with American history, the first nine digits after the decimal can be remembered by e=2.7(Andrew Jackson)^2, or e=2.718281828....., because Andrew Jackson was elected President of the United States in 1828. For those good in mathematics, on the other hand, this is a good way to remember their American history"

Glorious goof-up discovery by Math:

In 1994, while computing Brun's constant and evaluating reciprocals of twin primes (824,633,702,441 and 824,633,702,443), a flaw in the pentium numeric processor was discovered and was later rectified by Intel. In 1995, Intel announced 475 million dollars as the cost of replacing the defective chips!

Coming up with 'CO2 Cop': Carbon Footprint playing cards!

While studying about Carbon Footprint recently, I realised that we can take small steps to help reduce our Carbon Footprint and sustain our environment.
I researched the Carbon Footprints of activities we do and things we use and felt that this awareness to help people curtail their Carbon Footprint.
So I started thinking of ways to spread this awareness and came up with a simple solution- a deck of playing cards redesigned with illustrated information about Carbon Footprint to help people learn while they are having fun playing their favourite card games :)
