The three prominent hill tops surrounded the places and from far these three prominent hill tops resemble the three chullas or Oven. It is an upcoming tourist destination of the region.
The inhabitants of this quiet settlement took an initiative for establishing their locality as a model organic village. CHATAKPUR: Chatakpur is a small sleepy village amidst the Senchal forest region of the Eastern Himalayas in Darjeeling District, West Bengal is known for its beauty and tranquility. It is absolutely untouched by the hustle and bustle of city life. The hamlet is situated at an altitude of about 7,800 feet or about 2,400 meters. The forest village came into prominence during the last few years as a new tourist destination. The primary attraction of the place is its great mountain view and a serene and peaceful ambiance. Peaceful carefree friendly attitude of the village people lends to the beauty of the place.

This pristine village is bounded by the Kanchenjunga Mountain Range in the North and the river gorge Relly Khola in the south.
Chatakpur is not a place for sightseeing. It is a place to enjoy nature and the view of beautiful mountain range. The village is spread over a hill and has barely 22 homes and a population of about a hundred. At the bottom of the village is an open ground where vehicles are parked. There is also a seating area here to spend some leisurely time. About a km from here inside the dense forest is a small pond which is considered sacred by the locals. The area is also ideal for birding. If you decide to visit this area, make sure you are accompanied by a local as the forested road may be confusing for a new comer.

You can view the trekkers' dream destination Sundakphu from the Watch Tower in Chatakpur, 10 minutes walk from the tourist cottages. This view tower is also known as the sunrise point, and as expected the view of sunrise from here is simply awesome. Some argue that you perhaps get better view of sunrise over Kanchenjunga than what you get from Tiger Hill which requires you to travel for 40 minutes from Darjeeling early in the morning. While here, it's only 10 minutes walk to the tower.
Kanchenjunga range will be with you all along on a clear day. And that probably is the main reason why tourists love this place the most.

How to Reach:
Chatakpur is only about 80Kms from NJP or Bagdogra, 26Kms from Darjeeling and 17Kms from Jore Bungalow, Ghoom & 60Kms from Kalimpong.

 Airport: Bagdogra (IXB) is only airport & the distance is around 87kms.
 Rail: NJP (New Jalpaiguri Railway station) is around 80kms.

Accommodation: Being an offbeat destination there is no luxury hotel. The villagers offer accommodation to tourists, in the form of home stay accompanied by meals. The family run home stay at Chatakpur is nicely built, small and clean stay for nature loving travelers. You can enjoy your accommodation in Beautiful Cozy Home stays (Foods & services are limited in Home stays).

Post Covid plan a trip to Chatakpur to overcome the Pandemic Fatigue.
