A 9th Century shrine, Saas-Bahu temple in the fort allures not only the devotees but also the tourists with its artistic value. As its name denotes, these temples are not dedicated to Sas (mother-in-law) and Bahu (daughter-in-law) but rather the short form of Shashtra Bahu, another name of Lord Vishnu. JAI VILAS PALACE :
A European style palace converted into museum, Jai Vilas Palace is situated in Gwalior. Its unique architecture, which is a mix of Italian, Tuscan and Corinthian, is quite amazing. Jai Vilas Palace is constructed by the Maharaja Jiyaji Rao Scindia and the fabulous palace is festooned with furniture from Versailles, Italy and France.

The Museum exhibits a collection of antiques belong to the Scindia reign. Two Belgian chandeliers weighing several tens will definitely catch the sight of everyone. Each article put on display in the museum is worthy to be mentioned, but some rare collections like a glass cradle from Italy, silver dinner services and swords that were once worn by Aurangzeb and Shah Jahan are conspicuous.

MAN MANDIR PALACE :
Built in the 16th century, Man Mandir Palace at Gwalior occupies a significant place in Indian history. A heartrending ambiance of graciousness and valor of those days still loiters in the silent chambers this royal mansion.

Worn out by the passage of time, the interior of the palace is nearly empty. The exquisitely designed tiles adorn the exterior of the palace. The only fascinating feature in this palace is the nicely carved stonewalls of the vast chambers. One among the important spot in this palace is the Jauhar Pond, where the Rajput ladies committed sati. The circular prison in the palace had witnessed the brutal murder of Murad by the
hands of his own brother.

Though the palace had not survived the beatings of time, it hold its elegance and lend a hand to the visitor to go back to the medieval period.

According to the historians, Gwalior was the under the rule of the Hunas in the 6th century. It further went in to the hands of Gurjar Prariharas of Kannauj who ruled here till 923 A.D. The throne subsequently went under the control of Kachwaha Rajputs in 10th century. The city came under the flag of the Delhi Sultanate in 1196, when Qutub-Uddin Aibak captured the city. His rule was followed by the ruling of Shams-ud-Altamash in 1232. The magnanimous Gwalior Fort was constructed by Raja Man Singh of Tomar dynasty in the 15th century. It was during the 15th century that a famous singing school was established here and the legendary musician Tansen attended this school. The Muslim ruled here till 1553 after which the city was captured by Vikramaditya, who later conquered the North India after defeating Akbar’s army at Agra in 1556. The British gained control of the city in 1780, after which it remained in their kitty. During the first mutiny of 1857, Gwalior was one of the most active domains. Jhansi ki Rani lost her life here while fighting with the British. This city is also an important pilgrim center for Jains as well as the Sikhs
