I purchased the book 'Indian Icon: A cult called Royal Enfield' in 2021 to delve into their remarkable journey—how they conquered challenges to become legends. The prologue introduces individuals who have unwavering faith in RE, being their greatest strengths.
One compelling story features a gentle, soft-spoken man born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, in 1955. Over the last five decades, he has devoted himself to repairing and caring for RE bikes, possessing an incredible ability to diagnose issues by just listening to an RE engine. Meet Mr. Thankamani, renowned as the legendary Bullet Mani.
Maniyettan serves as a consultant for RE, providing valuable feedback and ideas for existing and new products, while working full time in his workshop in Kollam. During my recent visit to Goa for my first Motorverse event, I had the honour and luck of meeting Bullet Mani and his friends, all of whom arrived riding.
There was a group of men with “Bullet Mani and friends” written on the back of their T-shirts. When I inquired if he was the same Bullet Mani from the book, he was ecstatic and delighted that I recognized him. I had a few minutes to converse with him. Engaging him in conversation about RE bikes, you could see the sparkle in his eyes. A legend in the RE community, meeting him in person was a highlight of my first Motorverse event."
