Delicacies of Shillong

Right on Don Bosco Square is Jadoh, a small cafe serving all kinds of traditional Khasi food, among them the popular Shillong delicacy, jadoh. Owned by R J Cunville, the café offers plenty of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food at throwaway prices - perfect for the students who frequent it. Jadoh's smoky meat curries are very popular and so are its combo meals serving rice, salad, meat curry, chutney and vegetable. Just remember to go early, before the food runs out for the day.

Live like the Royals

If you'd prefer a regal stay in Shillong, head to Royal Heritage TRIPURA CASTLE. It was built in the early 1920s by Maharaja Bir Bikram, who came to Shillong for his military training and fell in love with the place. The Castle was used as a summer retreat of the Maharajas of the Manikya dynasty of Tripura. In 2003, it opened as the first heritage hotel in India's Northeast region.

"We started with a visit to the Bomdila Monastery! There’s an unquestionable beauty to the peace one finds in monasteries like this. After visiting a couple of other places, we reached Dirang. With our first-ever experience of a “Hot Water Spring” and a few other places, we decided to stay there for the night. Next day, we had our first experience of snow at Sella lake, Tawang. It was a journey to remember because of the moments to cherish, Thanks to Abode of Clouds for being the best Travel Partner we could have asked for!"

An old trekking route and one of the most popular trekking routes in Meghalaya,DAVID SCOTT TRAIL in Shillong has been named after David Scott, a British office. The route is spread over 100 km and takes around 5 days to get covered, on-foot. however the route has been separated into smaller trekking routes and the trail between Mawphlang and Lad Mawphlang.
