We all know that daughters have a special relationship with their parents ❤️👨‍👩‍👧‍👧

Mr & Mrs. Salunke recently stayed at The Xanadu, Coonoor. This holiday was gifted to them by their loving daughters Vipra and Vibha. The daughters planned every bit of their parents holiday in detail starting with a trusted cab driver from Bangalore, the menu for their surprise candlelight🍽 dinner (held indoors, because it was too cold and windy🌬 outdoors) to the flavour of the birthday cake(butterscotch) and everything in between.
We loved that despite the cold weather 🥶, Mr. Salunke dressed up for his birthday dinner ✨️
Vipra and Vibha were missed not only by their parents, but by us too! We look forward to hosting them all together, soon!

On 7th May, Xanadu lost its Chief Visionary, Dreamer and Co-founder - Arjun Bharathan.

It was his dream to have a house where he could get away from the manic city life and come back rested and rejuvenated. Between his extremely hectic corporate life he would spend weekends searching for the perfect spot crisscrossing the country and he finally found it in Coonoor.

The house he built was his dream project and starting from the porotherm bricks, tiles, Schneider switches, furniture, fixtures and everything in between was personally chosen by him.

Nothing gave him bigger joy than his visits to Xanadu and he was waiting for the day he could permanently move here.

The name Xanadu too was chosen by him after the his childhood hero, Mandrake. He couldn't have chosen a better name as Xanadu means a place of great luxury, peace and contentment.

Did you know today, 21st May is World Tea Day🫖

Coonoor is where the Nilgiri tea story began in the 1800s!!!The Britishers imported tea seeds from China to grow here and experimented on it for 2 decades. They finally found favourable review for the tea in the London tea auction in 1856.

Nilgiri tea🌱 is deliciously fragrant and exquisitely aromatic. Perhaps the eucalyptus 🌳and blue gum trees and the spices grown in close proximity create the unique flavour. CTC and Orthodox tea is grown here and the Nilgiri Orthodox tea has been granted a GI (Geographical Indication) tag. 📢

Apart from growing tea, Coonoor is one of the 6 tea auction centres in India. So while the town may seem small and sleepy, Coonoor is well known in the international tea market.🎖

Be it the silvery mist hugging the lake 🏞or the shimmering golden waters as the first rays of the sun indulgently caress it, the Kodaikanal lake makes everyone one with nature. 🌄

The lake is fed by waters that flow down from Palani hills. The outflow from the lake forms the Silver Cascade waterfall. The perimeter of the lake is 4.4 kms and the average depth of the lake is 3 metres.

Holidays in Kodai are incomplete without walking, strolling, bicycling, horse riding around the lake while munching on spicy charcoal roasted corn-on-the-cob, boiled peanuts and all things snacky, spicy and nice.

The placid waters of Kodaikanal lake 🏞beckons everyone. 60 acres of the lake ensures there is enough space for everyone to row, boat or paddle🛶🚤⛵ and enjoy the beauty of Kodaikanal.

The historic Boat House was built in 1890 and a fishing boat brought all the way from Tuticorin. Take a moment to think how they managed to transport a boat through the kuccha, winding hilly roads when the only source of transport was a bullock/horse cart!

Did you know that the famous Kodaikanal lake is star shaped! The credit for creating this beautiful man made lake goes to Sir Vere Hendry Levinge, the Collector of Madurai in 1863. Spread across 60 acres, the Kodai lake was built by damming three streams flowing into the valley. He went so far as to bring fish in for the lake and a boat all the way from Tuticorin!
