About the talk: History of Goa dates from the Palaeolithic times. Speaker intends to highlight caves, tunnels and the petroglyphs found on the banks of the Kushawati river provide a testimony to her chequered antiquity. Kushawati, Zuari, Mhadei or Mandovi river valley cultures and the sites found along their banks take us on a journey through the portals of our ancient times. The Gaunkari system set up by the tribals of the neolithic age to the advent of her dynastic phase is a case in point that enriches us the regal era provided by Goa’s ancient Kings and dynasties through the auspices of the Bhojas, the Konkan Mauryas, the Badami Chalukyas, the Shilaharas upto the advent of the Kadambas in the mid 10th century leaving the imprints of a rich and varied cultural heritage and historical heritage. This lecture will focus on the journey of human culture of Goa from early to mid 10th century CE. .
