Roses are everywhere in Pushkar. From the welcome garlands offered to tourists, to the ceremonial offerings at temples, their red colour can be seen wherever you look

It's because the area is a large floriculture centre, specializing in roses. They are used in making itr (fragrances), and in food. You will see rosewater being used to flavour the biryanis and cold sherbets, or as gulkand in paan.

The Mughals were responsible for the popularity of roses - and popular legend says it was the Empress Noor Jehan who discovered the magic of rose oil.

Heritage walk in Fort St George for .satish.3 and family. Fort St. George was the earliest fort built by the English in India. Founded in 1644, the fort soon grew to became a business hub, and led to the formation of Madras city around it. The fort was a key bastion of power in south India, and faced multiple assaults over time. It has housed multiple British Governor Generals in the past, and is today home to the state legislature and other official buildings.

At the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Center in Mumbai. An exhibition called India in Fashion. It's a look at the Indian influence on global (read western) designers. Its a bit unsettling to see such a lavish tribute to what is at best some sort of Orientalist fantasy about India. The western appropriation of opulent brocades is right up there as a classic Orientalism trope, next only to elephants and snake charmers. While we can document it, we do not need to applaud or internalize that skewed gaze. The chintz and muslin sections were excellent and saddening (colonialism at its ruthless best). Amidst all this there were many exhibits of current Indian designers (adding no logical value to the theme in our view). All this said, it's still a classy and brilliantly put together exhibition, in a beautiful venue, and well worth visiting. #magictoursofindia #mumbaimagictours

Legend says this is where Ka Likai plunged to her death in grief after her daughter's death. It's a pretty grisly legend, actually. After her first husband died, she married again. She had a daughter already. The second husband murdered the poor child, cut up the body, cooked it and fed it to Ka Likhai. Later when she went looking for the child, she discovered a severed finger in a basket of betel leaves. Yeah. Told you it was grisly. No wonder she threw herself off the cliff.
