Roses are everywhere in Pushkar. From the welcome garlands offered to tourists, to the ceremonial offerings at temples, their red colour can be seen wherever you look

It's because the area is a large floriculture centre, specializing in roses. They are used in making itr (fragrances), and in food. You will see rosewater being used to flavour the biryanis and cold sherbets, or as gulkand in paan.

The Mughals were responsible for the popularity of roses - and popular legend says it was the Empress Noor Jehan who discovered the magic of rose oil.

Mules and donkeys were commonly used for load carrying in the small lanes, especially where construction work was taking place. These days they are increasingly rare to find.

We are going to Tadoba. Want to come for this trip? Yeah it's going to be hot. We'll laze around drinking iced lemonades when we're not chasing tigers. There is even a swimming pool for those who want to get tanned.

But we are hoping for some outstanding summer sightings of the tiger!

Some of us are taking the overnight train from Mumbai. Some are flying into Nagpur to join the group.

Want to come along? WhatsApp +919867707414 for details.

Between 1917-1934, this quiet house on Laburnum Road served as the epicenter of India's freedom struggle. It belonged to Gandhi's follower Revashanker Jhaveri, and Gandhi stayed here for long periods. From here, several major initiatives of the freedom struggle were launched. And it was here that Gandhi took his first lessons in how to card cotton, from a passing itinerant carder.

Aerial view of Gwalior Fort. The rocky sandstone outcrop on which it is built is called Gopachal. A historic fort that passed through the hands of many empires, before eventually resting with the Maratha Scindias.

Gwalior can be visited as a day excursion from Agra. Or, if you are driving from Agra to Jhansi/Orchha, then Gwalior is right on the route.
