Gadhiya is a serene and remote village situated North East of and just outside the Gir Forest and National Park in Gujarat, India. It is an ode to timeless beauty found only in the villages of India. Even with all the developement in Gujarat, the balance of nature is firmly maintained at Gadhiya. ! Gadhiya is host to more than 38 species of mammals, approximately 320 species of birds and around 37 of reptiles. And of course, Gadhiya is also the last home of the majestic Asiatic Lions! They share this unique habitat with the Indian Leopard, Jungle Cat, Striped Hyena, Golden Jackal, the Mongoose, Civet Cat, Desert Cat, Rusty-Spotted Cat, Chital or Spotted Deer, Nilgai, Sambar, the Four Horned Antelope, Chinkara and Wild Boar and now with us. This is a shared habitat and the people of Gadhiya (population 800) live modest lives but gladly open their homes and hearts to the any though rare visitor. The people of Gadhiya are mainly 'Kathi Darbars'. Colonial British historians consider the Kathi to be a Scythian tribe that settled in the Kathiawar region in the second century B.C. Originaly warriors but now settled as cattle herders and farmers they have not lost their passion for the wonderful Kathi horse, the beautiful Gir cow and the majestic Jaffrabadi buffalo.
