The strikingly beautiful snow leopard remains one of the most mysterious cats in the world.

Highly adapted to life on the cold, rocky slopes of High Asia the snow leopard is a master of stealth and camouflage. Very rarely seen by humans, it has come to be known as the ‘ghost of the mountains. It has also become an icon for these breathtaking and critically important landscapes, which house a diverse array of unique high-altitude species and provide critical ecosystem services for hundreds of millions of people. It is estimated that over 330 million people live within 10km of rivers originating in snow leopard habitat and are directly affected by the water flowing down from
these mountains.

Snow leopards roam across huge swathes of the region’s mountainous terrain, with
individual home ranges stretching from 200 to 2000 km2. This roving, the high-altitude cat is rarely sighted, and because it is so elusive, accurate pop**ation numbers are hard to come by, although estimates range from 400 to 700 individuals in India.

Bardan Monastery or Bardan Gompa is a 17th-century Buddhist monastery, 14 kms from Padum, in Zanskar, Ladakh on the banks of Lungnak river. The monastery consists of a large Dukhang or assembly hall which has some grand statues of Buddhist figures and several small stupas.

Enjoy a visit to the monastery while you ride across the Zanskar Valley on your Royal Enfield motorcycle.

P**a - The traditional footwear Himachalis wear from the inner Himalayan valleys of Kullu and Seraj, is made from a thread woven out of bark of stem of cannabis/ bhang plant. Considered pure even to be worn during religious occasions, moving inside sacred temples and as a daily wear inside homes too.

Dried strips of bark or skin of stem of cannabis plant or buckwheat stem are twisted together to make a rope which is woven to make the sole of P**a. The upper part of P**a is embroidered in bright colours of wool in a blanket stitch. The coloured stripes and geometric patterns used to enhance the natural shade of the grass resemble the border decorations of the Kullu shawl and caps.

Come experience a workshop on P**a making at ShivAdya, enrich yourself in this traditional handicraft form and enjoy a day chatting with ladies from the Himalayas and hear their stories & life experiences.
