Basavanagudi, Dodda Basavanagudi Gudi or Big Bill Temple is an iconic temple in Bengaluru. This temple is dedicated to Nandi and has a large monolithic statue of Nandi - about 15 feet in height and 20 feet in length.

The temple is believed to be built during late Vijayanagara period in 16th century by Kempegowda who had allegiance to Vijayanagara Empire and was responsible for shaping the modern day Bengaluru.

While Nandi statues are generally found in temples dedicated to Lord Shiva seated opposite the temple sanctum or garbha griha facing the Shiva Linga, in this temple, the Nandi statue is seated facing outward. A later day addition of Shiva Linga can be seen behind Nandi.

At 15 feet tall, this is one of the largest Nandi statues in India. Other prominent Nandi statues include , , , Venkatapura in Surpur Taluka, .

If you know any other large Nandi statues, please add in comments section and we will compile.

On the auspicious occasion of Shri Rama Navami, we seek the blessings of Lord Shri Ram. This picture is taken at Kodanda Rama Temple, Hampi - A UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kodanda means the bow which Lord Rama is holding, seen on either side are Lakshmana and Sita Devi.

Hampi (or Kishkindha) during Ramayana period was the land of Vanaras and it is here that Lord Rama met Hanuman while searching for Sita Devi.

Kodanda Rama Temple is right on the bank of the river Tungabhadra overlooking the river. During late monsoon, the river water is found to rise up to the footsteps of the temple and submerging the “Kampa Bhoopa Path” that leads one from Virupaksha Temple to Kodanda Rama Temple.
