Rabari men wear a pure white cotton dress. Although white might be an impractical choice keeping in mind the dusty desert, but it is the most practical when it comes to warding the desert heat. The dress consists of a long-sleeved double breasted shirt, which may be quite long or short, a loincloth called pacheri and a red turban eight meters long. The shirt and the loincloths may be decorated with embroidery in various floral and animal motifs.
Old men, when their beards have turned white, usually change their red turbans to white one. The turban is versatile in use, keeping the head protected from the heat of the desert, and being used as a pillow when needed.
Simple jewellry like small gold ear rings along with amulets around the neck to ward off evil eye is usually worn by Rabari men.

Mahabharata mentions that Pushkar is a holy place of the god Vishnu, considered as the Adi Tirtha where millions of tirthas united during sunrise and sunset, and visiting the lake and taking a holy bath in the lake would wash off all sins.
There are also a number of beliefs associated with each of the ghats. The water of these ghats is believed to have great healing powers. For instance Roop Tirth enhances beauty and charm, Mrikand Muni Kund is believed to grant wisdom and Naga Kund helps in fertility ...

A portrait from Pushkar.
The Pushkar fair is one of India's largest camel, horse and cattle fairs.
Apart from the trading of livestock, it is an important pilgrimage season for Hindus to the Pushkar lake.
The fair has also become a significant attraction, given the cooler season and the abundance of colorful cultural themes.
Cultural events and competitions including dances (even of horses), tug of war between women teams as well as men teams, the "matka phod", longest moustache, bridal, camel decorations & races, wrestling & more!

Varanasi: not only do you get to see laundry being washed along the ghats.
Pilgrims come to one of the world's oldest continually inhabited cities and the Ganges here to wash away sins in the sacred waters, to cremate their loved ones, or simply to die here, hoping for liberation from the cycle of rebirth.

Pune was initially given pride of place by Shivaji and the ruling Peshwas, who made it their capital. The British took the city in 1817 and, thanks to its cool and dry climate, soon made it the Bombay Presidency’s monsoon capital. Globalisation knocked on Pune’s doors in the 1990s, following which it went in for an image overhaul. However, some colonial-era charm was retained in a few old buildings and residential areas, bringing about a pleasant coexistence of the old and new, which (despite the pollution and hectic traffic) makes Pune a worthwhile place to explore.
Rasta Peth is an area located central in Pune City and places like Pune Station, Camp, Shaniwar Wada, Dagadusheth Halwai Ganapati Temple, Laxmi road, Bund Garden are hardly 10 minutes apart.

In Hinduism, Mathura is believed to be the birthplace of Krishna and is one of the Sapta Puri, the seven cities considered holy by Hindus.
The Kesava Deo Temple was built in ancient times on the site of Krishna's birthplace (an underground prison). Mathura was the capital of the kingdom of Surasena, ruled by Kansa, the maternal uncle of Krishna. Janmashtami is grandly celebrated in Mathura every year.

Get lost on an adventure...
Located inside the huge Bara Imambara, Bhool Bhulaiya is among the most famous attractions of the region. This labyrinth has intrigued architects and travellers from more than two hundred years. This structure was constructed by Asaf-Ud-Dowhala during the tough times of 1784 AD. After it was finished, it became the symbol of pride and grandeur for Lucknow.
The β€˜Bhool-bhulaiya’ has more than 1,000 passages and around 489 identical doorways. If you take a guide, he lets you guess which of the four doorways is the right door. The experience just gets better when you guess the right one and the guide asks you to chant with him the bhool-bhulaiya’s famous funny rant which goes something like this- β€œ Chaar raaste bhoot. Ek rasta sach, teen raste bhool-bhulaiya.” But if you guess the wrong door, he lets you climb those stairs while he waits down and you realise that it takes you further down instead of going up. It surprises you at every turn.

Known to most for Slumdog Millionaire, Mumbai, formerly Bombay, is big and full of dreamers and hard-labourers, starlets and gangsters, stray dogs and exotic birds, artists and servants, fisherfolk and crorepatis (millionaires), and lots and lots of people and energy.
It has India’s most prolific Bollywood film industry, some of Asia’s biggest slums, which are full of entrepreneurs & inspiration (as well as the world’s most expensive home) and the largest tropical forest in an urban zone. Mumbai is India’s financial powerhouse, fashion epicentre and some vibrant spots for you to catch up with likeminded souls in the evening...

Teacher, Zuba’r, at the Jantar Mantar, in modern New Delhi.
It consists of 13 architectural astronomy instruments. The site is one of five built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur, from 1723 onwards, revising the calendar and astronomical tables. There is a plaque fixed on one of the structures in the Jantar Mantar observatory in New Delhi that was placed there in 1910 mistakenly dating the construction of the complex to the year 1710. Later research, though, suggests 1724 as the actual year of construction. .

🐐 Village life: a lone goat being milked near Jaisalmer.
In India, goat milk is usually used for making cheese πŸ§€. Goats are important livestock here, especially as they are adaptable to the harsh climates.
On average, a good-quality doe can produce more than a couple of litres of milk a day - that’s a good amount of paneer to be made! .

Portrait from Pushkar.
Pushkar has a magnetism all of its own – it’s quite unlike anywhere else in Rajasthan. It is world famous for its spectacular Camel Fair, which takes place in the Hindu month of Kartika (October/November). If you are anywhere nearby at the time you would be crazy to miss it.

The Masjid-i Jehan Numa, commonly known as the Jama Masjid of Delhi, is one of the largest mosques in India. .

It was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan between 1650 and 1656 at a cost of one million rupees, and was inaugurated by Imam Syed Abdul Ghafoor Shah Bukhari from Bukhara, present-day Uzbekistan. The mosque was completed in 1656 AD with three great gates and two 40 metres high minarets constructed with strips of red sandstone and white marble.

The courtyard can accommodate more than 25000 people. There are three domes on the terrace which are surrounded by the two minarets. On the floor, a total of 899 black borders are marked for worshippers. The architectural plan of Badshahi Masjid, built by Shah Jahan's son Aurangzeb at Lahore, Pakistan, is similar to the Jama Masjid. The Majestic Mosque for Indian Muslims is considered as the "National Mosque of India" respectively.
