Route to Ladakh Landscapes

There are many things that come to one’s mind when mentioned about Ladakh and so was it for me too. Getting there is not an issue but the part there after was the problem. Inquiring with the big travel agencies and the local ones all gave prices more a less similar but I knew this could not be the best. I continued to look further until I was satisfied and assured. Hence rather than choosing any travel agency that would over charge me I decided to make my own itinerary and bookings for every place.

The one thing that all vegetarians are worried about in this region is of food and specially those looking for Jain food. And so was the same for me. But I knew that food was not a barrier to travel to any part of the world just the knowledge of its availability is a bigger barrier. On our wander lusting of 8 days, there wasn’t a single day when we didn’t have to worry about vegetarian good food. Maggie was the last thing we wanted to have, as most places you only get Maggie – which fills your appetite only for 15 minutes, while the mountain demands more energy. With local help, I figured out places which served good vegetarian food and Jain food as well.

Next thing if you sort your meal issue, you will read on varied scary discussions about AMS - Acute Mountain Sickness on the net. It is real but not life taking if you know how to counter it. As much as my wife is a travel enthusiastic but was also concerned about our group’s health. Until we did travel, all we knew was that popping Diamox was the only way of surviving. But we did figure out more ways of coping up with the mountains while we actually travelled and throughout the journey we didn’t need pills to manage our oxygen support.

Another challenge is when your group has workaholics! All they wanted was to explore Ladakh with zero involvement. So I was left alone to make all the bookings and planning for them. No opinion or votes. Simply my choice. I am a kind of person who wouldn’t want to miss out anything. And so wouldn’t anyone else.
