Leh, Ladakh
Dear Runners,
Recently we have seen a surge of tourist activity in Ladakh, undoubtedly due to a decline in cases following the devastating second wave. We are all united by the hope of returning to the previous carefree days of travel. But, in the event that a third wave exhaust resources and further endanger lives, a mass gathering is inadvisable.
The success of Ladakh Marathon has been due to the support of the local administration: the police, volunteers, armed forces and healthcare workers. The Ladakh Marathon, as many may know, was created to encourage determination and resilience in our youth. We strongly believe that these qualities are not compatible with, and are in fact contradicted by, short-sightedness and complacence.
Our observation of the ongoing windfall of tourists, and increasing anxiety regarding a third wave, has helped us come to this resolution. With the health and wellbeing of this community, including all the runners and their supporters, as our number one priority, we have come to the difficult but necessary decision to cancel all the races of the 9th Edition of the Ladakh Marathon which were supposed to be held 8th - 12th September.
We are optimistic that the 2022 Ladakh Marathon will continue the tradition to hold the event with the full support of the runners, the local community and administration.
For those who registered in 2020, your registrations will be valid for the 9th Edition to be held in 2022 from Thursday 7th to Sunday 11th September.
We advise everyone to be judicious in following COVID-19 safety guidelines.
We look forward to seeing you all in 2022.
Till then, stay safe and keep running!
Jullay!

Just as each one of you is eager to run Ladakh Marathon, we are equally looking forward to hosting the 9th edition this year. However, considering the uncertainty of the situation and fear of a second wave, we have postponed the registration dates.

For those who were confirmed for the marathon in 2020, your registrations have been transferred for a period of two years to 2021 or 2022.

Kanchenjunga East Base Camp trek (Green Lake)
Recently we led a group of trekkers to Kanchenjunga East base camp
(Green Lake) North Sikkim. Avid trekkers will know the area for being remote and pristine in its beauty.
It was disheartening to reach our destination and find the greenery littered with trash. It is difficult not to be judgmental of such pollution since being irresponsible with waste, especially in the remote mountains, deserves no purpose. One can only imagine a situation in which trekkers were so spellbound by the natural beauty that they believed a mystical mountain fairy would surely follow up to clean their waste.
Our group cleaned up much of the trek route and the campsites and weighed in over 100 kg of garbage. While many would find this to be commendable, we see this as a shameful addition to our trip. Those who have chosen to engage in trekking such remote areas need to understand the ecological sensitivity of such regions and take responsibility for their presence. It is easy for a single human to become a harmful carbon footprint, as we can see from the considerable damages to the environment in the last few years.
Trekkers and adventure-enthusiasts should know better than to engage in anthropocentric conduct once they are in natural surroundings. We understand, however, that certain items are necessary to make a trek easier. Therefore, since such devices are so critical to the trek, it is only inevitable that trekkers show gratitude to these items and respectfully discard them in their proper containers once they have returned from camp. Seeing a trash-free path would certainly spark joy, and empty cans carried on the way down would surely be lighter to carry than when brought uphill for consumption.
We are grateful to the group members and our staff who helped us in clearing the area but look forward to a day when such action will not be needed. Until the day a debris-cleaning Yeti shows up, we must keep the Himalaya as clean and filtered as they look on our Instagram.

Our Story
The Rimo story began on the banks of the Indus River in Ladakh when Motup, who was born in the remote Nubra valley of Ladakh and Yangdu, who comes from Darjeeling and is the daughter of mountaineer Nawang Gombu Sherpa, established a modest two-person run whitewater rafting camp for day trips. It was to become a lifelong adventure, a way to earn a living and spend time in the outdoors they loved.
Over a 25 year period Rimo Expeditions has developed operational strength with stores and offices across India and Nepal. Today we have a global reputation for its ability to handle both big and small groups, through fixed departure trips and customized adventures both for the novice seeking an introduction to the outdoors, as well as the experienced adventurer who wants to push the limits of endurance. Our backyard is the magnificent and spectacular Himalaya and East Karakoram, a region that stretches from the remote north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh to Ladakh which lies at the tip of India, along the Pakistan and China (Tibet) border.
Rimo-organized expeditions have been among the first to set foot on remote and unexplored glaciers in the Karakoram, such as Teram Shehr plateau, the Shukpa Kunzang glacier, pioneered white water rafting on the Indus River and led families looking for an inimitable adventure holiday.
Throughout our evolution Rimo Expeditions has remained true to its roots. The key to our success has always been the hands-on approach of Motup and Yangdu who are involved in every detail of a trip. We have a network of offices and guides who are trained to international standards and know how to make sound judgement calls to ensure the safety of our clients.
Rimo has also set the gold standard for other local companies using only the best available equipment. Our clients constantly remind us through their testimonials that the trail meals prepared by our expert staff are culinary miracles in difficult circumstances because they contain the three most ingredients important to them; they are delicious, hygienically prepared and nutritious. First time, and returning clients rave about the meals we provide on our trips and for good reason. Our ability to provide both western and Indian cuisuine on the road is unrivalled and our cooks and kitchen staff delight in being able to meet every request.
With a variety of choices, whether it’s a peak at a height of 8,000 metres, run the mighty Brahmaputra river, mountain biking through some of the most challenging terrain and the highest motorable road in the world, or trekking through rarely trodden trails, one thing can be assured; Rimo Expeditions has a proven track record to make your holiday adventure safe, enjoyable and memorable.
