Ace product designer and sustainable farmer @MallikaChandra says, "Designing the packaging for the cacao thins was truly a collaborative process with @chefsanjana. Having designed the actual chocolate over many months of trials and research, we both felt like the same care had to be given to the packaging design. The initial stage was spent poring over her impressive collection of chocolates and packaging, not to take direct inspiration, but just to immerse ourselves in the kind of sensory experience we wanted to create. That helped us ask (a lot of) the right questions like –
"How can these be an extension of our chocolate bar, and yet be totally different?"
"How can we design a journey, rather than a product?"
"How much information is too much or too little?"
"How do we add warmer colours to our palette?"
"What is the perfect La Folie red?"
The next stage was creating quick mockups of everything from how we wanted the box to open, how the three origins should be arranged inside, putting together Pantone swatches for every element, thinking about papers and finishes. A lot of problem solving was done here!
Finally, we spent one intensive day at the chocolate factory designing the final packaging. I remember we had two breakthroughs that day – first was to layer the front of the box with type-based elements of the word 'ORIGINS', which really helped give it dimension and further emphasize the essence of the thins, and second was to include the coordinates of each origin in front of the chocolates which was a lovely reminder of the journey these cacao beans have taken."

Mugshot! 😍 Beautiful from every angle but here’s a side profile of our first-ever chocolate thin. The side profile shows the evolution of ridges on the chocolate thin. Apart from our love for geometry, the idea to create these ridges was three-fold:
👉🏼We wanted the weight to be 5 grams. After studying chocolate technology and eating a whole lot of chocolate during the time, @chefsanjana learnt that 5 grams is the perfect amount of chocolate to envelope your mouth. This design helped us achieve the grammage without being boring.
👉🏼Chocolate starts to melt from 30 to 32 C, just a little bit lower than your body temperature. Now imagine if this was just a square. As soon as it would hit yout palette it would melt all at once as the entire surface area of the chocolate would be exposed to your body temperature in your mouth. These ridges, both visually stunning and effective, make the chocolate melt more slowly in your mouth, allowing you to enjoy the chocolate for a longer period of time… this chocolate thin encapsulates #SlowIndulgence
👉🏼The ridges allow for a really good snap. Snapping a chocolate is a joy like no other. It also is a sign of really good chocolate.
