Gujarat calling!

This February, travel with us to two World Heritage Sites as we explore cities and settlements of the Harappan / Indus Valley Civilisation, a salt desert, a sanctuary, handicrafts, and the world's most fabulous stepwell!

This trip includes a visit to the Harappan city of Dholavira, now a World Heritage Site, the Sun Temple in Modhera, the Rani ki Vav stepwell (also a World Heritage Site), the other-worldly Rann of Kutch, and a visit to Bhuj to see some unusual palaces and view close-up some crafts.

Duration: 5N / 5D
Places: Dholavira, Patan, Modhera, Lothal, Rann of Kutch, Wild Ass Sanctuary, Bhuj, Ahmedabad.

We had an exciting trip to Gujarat this week, drooling over the Rani ki Vav, the sun temple in Modhera and Harappan ruins at Dholavira and Surkotada. The sublime sunset over the Rann, the first look at a Harappan site, trying to figure out the plan of a 4,000-year-old house, marvelling at the way a stepwell opens up in feint of you....our group certainly had memories for a lifetime.

Last week, we took about 120 school children around Gwalior, Jhansi and Orchha! We explored forts, chhatris and jaalis. We talked music, painting and poetry. And we told stories of bravery, deep friendhships, buried treasure and more!

Our recent trip to Bidar, Gulbarga and Sannati was "a super-duper awesome trip," as said! We marvelled at military architecture. We crawled through bushes and braved the thorns to see abandoned hammams and palaces. We oohed and aahed at stunning 15th century tilework one day, and at 2,000-year-old sculpture the next. And we made new friends and memories along the way.

An amazing group, the rich history of the region and its little-known architectural gems all made for an unforgettable few days.

Announcing a trip to the Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysalas, India's newest World Heritage Site!!

Three Hoysala temples in Belur, Halebidu and Somanathapura were added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites on 18th September. We will visit the three WHS temples, plus two lesser-known Hoysala gems. We will 'read' the stories in the sculptures. We will talk about the artisans who worked on the sculptures. We will understand exactly what makes these temples World Heritage. (Hint: It's not only the stunning sculpture!) And we will get a tour of a coffee estate and taste some freshly brewed estate coffee!

Why should you do this trip with us? Because our walk leaders led the team that wrote the 500-page nomination dossier that was the basis for UNESCO declaring these temples as World Heritage!!

When: Leaving Bangalore on Saturday 28th October 2023. Returning Monday night, 30th October 2023. (2N/3D tour)

We had the privilege of taking children's writer and Caldecott Award winner Robin Page and her friend around Mysore, Srirangapatna and Somanathapura recently. A privilege and an absolute delight to introduce our history, living heritage and culture to these two adventurous, curious and lovely people. Eating on a banana leaf, block-printing, looking closely at palaces and temples - they enjoyed it all!

Hampi in the rains is magical. The dramatic landscape with its medieval monuments set amidst boulders seems mirrored by the sky. We took a group of enthusiastic travellers who loved every moment of it - the temples, the stepped tanks, the river, the stories.
