Last month, Your Story Bag lost its heart, mind, and soul.

I am the voice of everything that we do at Your Story Bag.

My father, the Co-Founder, the Chief Mentor, Story Guide & Coach was at the heart of this organisation.

With his passing, I have lost an integral voice that anchored & steered me as a storyteller and entrepreneur.

Here is our story…the one you didn’t see everyday. Yet, it is at the core of what we do & who we are.

I want to thank all my listeners, my supporters, cheerleaders, the believers, the champions of everything that we do at Your Story Bag.

You are the reason why we tell stories & will always do.

The best stories are those that people tell about you!

Last year students of Year 5 at came together to write a small bio about me. The idea was to read this BEFORE my session so children knew who are they listening to.

Introductions make me queezy, particularly if they are with young audiences. In most cases, teachers pick up my bio from my website / social media to read aloud. Typically, this content is meant for adult audiences. There are too many fancy words which mean nothing to children! So when little children read formal introductions, a part of me dies!

But The British School was special! The children read an introduction that they had written by themselves.

I had visited The British School before the pandemic in 2019. 4 years later that bunch of children had grown up. The current Year 5 were too small to even know my name then! However, the students got together with their teachers & older students to stitch a narrative of who I am and what I can offer.

Notice the line about the story of Malala…this is one of the first few schools where I narrated the story to Year 6 in 2019. The attention to detail, and that a story from 4 years back is still remembered is so special.

Notice the pencil-written thank you note at the end. You know that the ‘vote of thanks’ wasn’t written before hand! It was written by a child AFTER the stories were heard.

I’ve been toying with the idea of writing a child-friendly bio. The children at The British School have inspired me!

So here I am asking for help publicly!

Help me write a child-friendly bio 🙏

Whether you’re an adult or guardian to one, whether you’ve heard me in a school, a library, bookstore or festival…answer a few simple questions to help me stitch a bio!

I will share the options here for you to choose the best one!!

Happy Storytelling!

in a podcast with recommends that people tell their stories. He says, *“I’d honestly think that everybody’s story is fascinating. I would encourage anybody to keep a diary. Every day just in conversations with people you’re going to learn something.”*

Branson goes on to say how you can gather your stories and publish it as a book for your grandchildren someday. While I completely champion that, I can tell you a more current use of your stories.

You don’t need to journal your stories to tell them in the twilight of your life.

You journal your stories so you can tell them NOW & when you need them during an interview, a presentation, a talk or a conversation.

You can tell your life stories, the small everyday stories for minor transformations to give a window into who you are and what makes you unique!

So, what’s the use of Personal Stories? The one’s you journal?

Read the post on our Blog on our website: https://www.yourstorybag.com/how-will-story-journaling-help-you-in-an-interview/

Over the next 12 months, we will help you build .

The habit of the month is ‘Journalling’ so read all about it and particularly how it can be used to face interviews.

Next week, our blog looks at the Power of Personal Narratives in Leadership and Entrepreneurship.

Keep building your habits!

There are stories that make villains and heroes of characters.

There are stories heap stereotype, add bias and prejudice to characters.

There are stories that build such a strong narrative, that there is little room for a counter-narrative.

And so we need people who dare to look beyond the popular narrative. The ones who believe there is another truth that is buried under the story that is told to them. We need those who question a narrative and go searching for a new story…

And that is why we need in the adult world. So we can see beyond our prejudices, fear and biases.

“Indians are dramatic!” Remarked an international storyteller at a conference.

Oh yes, we are!

We are dramatic, because we are emotional.

India is a dense country. We have more people around us than most other nations.

In our homes. On the streets. At our workplaces. We are always surrounded by people.

Human interactions evoke entanglements.

Where there are entanglements, there are engagements.

Where there are engagements, there are conversations.

Where there are conversations, there are arguments.

Where there are arguments, there is emotions!

Where there are emotions, there is dramatics.

Where there is dramatics, there is action!

Oh hell yes, we are dramatic! And that’s how we are human.

We say what we feel and we want to you to see it.

Do you have trouble expressing your emotions? Your thoughts?

Try storytelling…choose your drama, no, you don’t have to be so dramatic as I am here!

Happy Storytelling!

“𝗥𝗲𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻" - 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵?

Reunions are heartwarming reminders who we were once upon a time! Whether with family, friends or colleagues, reunions are special. Or it could be going back to an old habit, a trustworthy companion, or a practice that you had left long ago.

𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗺. 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳.𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆.

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗶𝗽:

Like with all stories, consider your emotions, your memories, and your thoughts that are triggered with reunions. People trigger memories, they bring out forgotten anecdotes and give a new perspective. While you tell a reunion story, think of small habits, rituals and practices that you have renewed to change your life. This story will take you inwards. Enjoy it.

Kindness is a simple reminder of loaning someone one’s strength instead of reminding them of their weakness. You don’t need to be old, rich, endowed, wise or gifted to be kind. You have to be human to be kind. If you have seen an act of kindness in your surroundings then share the story.

𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳.

Forgiveness is a virtue that we all need. To not take offence, to not hold grudges, to let the negativity go and make room for goodness…forgiveness is incredibly difficult. Yet…we all need more of it. Did you experience it this year?

𝗧𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆. 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂. 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀. 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲.

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗶𝗽:

To identify a moment of forgiveness, first consider if you are someone who takes offence easily. If not being invited to a party, or someone forgetting to wish you on your birthday, or someone honking on the street to overtake you makes you feel angry, resentful and vengeful, then pause! You desperately need to work on forgiveness. However, if you forgiven serious and grave offences, like insult, cheating, forgery or even killing, then take a moment honour that moment. Equally important are moments when you decide to absolve yourself from past guilt, shame, or mistakes that have held you back. To forgive yourself, you need empathy too!

A fused lightbulb, a project obstacle, a troubled relationship, your physical or mental health….when things are broken, unfinished, damaged, the choice is to look away and leave it for another day or someone else! Or the choice is to roll up the sleeves and fix it!

𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗿. 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝘅 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀.

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗶𝗽:

Even the best of us are prone to procastination! Occasionally, we dump issues on others, or put off things because they aren’t really bothering us at the moment! If you have stepped up to be an action taker this year, tell that story. Being a ‘fixer’, the one taking initiative, or choosing to take action is an important personal trait that makes you stand out from others. The word ‘fix’ may also be about remedying something that has been spoilt, broken or damaged. Think deep, did you fix something? What were the implications of it?

Making friends gets tougher as we age. Even though we meet many people, network, make new acquaintances, it takes a special moment to connect with someone and call him/her your friend. If you made a new friend this year, take a moment to acknowledge and share a story.

𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗮 '𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱' 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲'𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗺. 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗮 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂. 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆.

Remember your childhood friendships? Adult friendships are different, you know it. The rules of engagement, endearment and involvement are different. Share your friendship story to show where and how did you make a new friend and how has it impacted you.

Rejections are super important! The ability to accept a refusal, a denial, the lack of permission or consent is a vital life skill. The ability to stay optimistic, identify the reasons for refusal, work harder, and propose again, is equally important. Turning a rejection into acceptance is a story in itself!

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗶𝗽:

Your Rejection Story is a like a failure story. While failure stories tend to be over-glamourised, try being pragmatic about a rejection and how it impacted you. Think of it as a story that will help you keep your chin up on a bad day, help you motivate your colleagues when there are too many client rejections, or perhaps someone who is dealing with a matters of the heart! Rejections are part of life…if you tell yours, try asking someone for theirs. We all have our own pet ways to rationalise and deal with a rejection.

No year is complete without sharing, sending, giving something to someone.

A special someone, a child, a peer, a friend, a customer, or a stranger…tell a story about when you gifted and gave away something intentionally and purposefully.

You will have a valuable story to tell if gave received an unexpected, surprise or unintentional gift to someone.

Likewise, if you have been at the receiving end of a gift, this is a story for yours to tell.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹, 𝗮 𝗴𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲. 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝗴𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿.

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗶𝗽:

Gift can be interpreted in many ways. Think of gift as talent or skills that you were born with, one that you shared with someone purposefully or unintentionally to help them one day. Or think of it as a material object that helped you sparkle someone’s life. Did you giveaway something to someone in need? Or because it was time? Did you receive an unwanted gift? Or perhaps a surprise that made your day? Telling a gift story is like tapping into tangible and intangible things that make your life truly rewarding.
