The season of monsoon is very interesting in Central Gujarat. I visited Jambughoda wildlife sanctuary near Vadodara city in July 2020.

We were looking for reptiles and amphibians around the human habitat. We saw a couple of skinks, tree frogs, and encountered snakes on the highway-jambughoda to Bodeli. We even saw a roadkill of Indian chameleon that night.

After heavy rain, for early morning walk we went to a water body from our stay. One of our team members noticed a Chameleon Hunting Dragonflies on the ground. It was interesting to observe this game of hunting.

Chameleon has a high-speed weapon. An ultra-sticky tongue, which can be 2.5 times longer than its body and can be deployed and reeled back in less than a second. It's helpful for them to hunt insects like butterflies and dragonflies.

Chameleon’s eye has an incredible range of motion of 360 degrees And that’s not all. The peepers can also move in opposite directions—so while one eye is looking upwards and to the left, the other might simultaneously wander downwards and to the right. This allows a chameleon to scan most of the surrounding area for food without even moving its head. If one wandering eye is spying a tasty insect, the other one will move over and fixate on the target as well, giving the lizard some depth perception.

It was great to manage to get record shots of this epic encounter with an Indian chameleon on the hunt.

A Smallest Feline in the world

The Rusty-spotted cat

Few days before I was posted “ I got sight of my Dream cat “ and I know many people want to know what I got in tadoba. Acutely It's one of my Lifers added to my checklist
For the last many years I have tried to photograph this beauty in Gujarat but I was not lucky at all. but finally, after a long time I got A Rusty Spotted cat in Tadoba National Park.

It’s mostly nocturnal but also briefly active during the day. It’s mainly found in moist and dry deciduous forests as well as scrub and grassland but is likely absent in evergreen forests.

Rusty-spotted cats are feed mainly on rodents and birds but also preys on lizards, frogs, and insects. It hunts primarily on the ground, making rapid, darting actions to catch its prey.

A spectacular Male Tiger from the Alizanja zone.

Alizanja is one of my favorite zone at Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve. In the early morning of the winter season, I have hosted a safari for our guests .We encountered an elegant and iconic Male tiger at Alizanja. He is patrolling his kingdom during this time of duration. He was seated at the mound and analyzing the scent of another tiger’s presence or visit in his kingdom and he gives me a glance at my camera. That's one of the unforgettable experiences of season 2021.

The Hunt
It was an incredibly lucky day for me. Before that, I missed the roadshow of Maya and her cubs went from Ain-body water hole to 97 water hole. But I didn't lose hope. I informed this incident to my guest. They offered me a cup of tea at 97 water hole. A male spotted deer came out from my left-hand side... he just came and started drinking water and of course, we were busy with a cup of tea... I just finished my tea and took my binocular to look some birds on the grass.... and suddenly I saw some activity behind the grass and that's the Maya. I informed to my guest to become prepared with the camera and I was also prepared for it. She waited almost were 5 minutes to get an opportunity to kill that deer.! When she reached 10 ft near to deer. she started chasing a deer. In 4 laps she got 1st touch of that deer .! And in next lap, Maya got the back of deer in her powerful jaw. I got my lifetimes epic hunting behaviour of a tiger. it was my 1st experience to see a Tiger Hunt.

Dhole / Asiatic wild dog.

Dhole can whistle as a mode of communication. Hence, also called “A whistling Dog”. Dhole lives in forest thickets and hunts through them, the communication process of a dhole is rather complex. Alongside the common wagering and face-licking indications, they are known to produce feigning whistles – a strategy developed for messaging amid thick grass and undergrowth.

Chameleons do not choose the background colour and may not even be able to perceive colour differences. They are usually in shades of green or brown or with bands. They can change colour rapidly and the primary purpose of colour change is for communication with other chameleons and for controlling body temperature by changing to dark colours to absorb heat
