Vizag giripradhakshina is a sacred and auspicious event that takes place every year on the full moon day of Ashada month (July) at the Simhachalam temple of Lord Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. It is a 32 km-long devotional walk around the Simhachalam hills, which is believed to be equivalent to walking around the world . Devotees participate in the Giri Pradakshina to seek the blessings of the deity and fulfill their wishes. The Giri Pradakshina starts at the foothill of Simhachalam, where devotees break a coconut and make three rounds, then visit Lord Ganesha statue for taking his blessings. Then they proceed to walk along the designated route, which passes through various places such as Jail road, Adavivaram, Arilova, Hanumanthavaka, Jodugulla palem beach, Madhavadhara, NAD junction and back to Simhachalam temple. A motored chariot of the deity also runs along the route. After completing the Giri Pradakshina, devotees can visit the temple at the hilltop and have a special darshan of the deity, who is covered with sandalwood paste . The Giri Pradakshina is a unique and spiritual experience that attracts lakhs of people from different parts of Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Giri Pradakshina has been cancelled for the second consecutive year in 2021. Devotees can still worship the deity online or at their homes and hope for better times ahead.
