TIGER RESERVE
One of Indias most attractive and well-kept national parks is Bandipur National Park. It is a
significant component of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, which includes the Rajiv Gandhi
National Park (Nagarahole) in Karnataka to the northwest, the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary in
Tamil Nadu to the south, and the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala to the southwest. It is
situated amidst the picturesque surroundings of the towering Western Ghats on the Mysore-
Ooty highway in Karnataka. Bandipur National Park spans an area of 872.24 square kilometres.
It is split between the Chamarajanagar District&s Gundlupet Taluk and the Mysuru Districts
H.D.Kote and Nanjangud Taluks. In addition to the two well-known inhabitants, this national
park is home to a number of other endangered species, including sloth bears, gaurs, Indian rock
pythons, jackals, muggers, and four-horned antelopes. Sambar, mouse deer, chital, sloth bears,
and the unusual flying lizard are also protected in Bandipur. Its appeal is increased by the
diversity of the vegetation and the over 200 kinds of birds. Additionally, a variety of timber
species, such as teak, rosewood, sandalwood, Indian laurel, Indian Kino trees, gigantic clumping
bamboo, etc., may be found in Bandipur.
