من بغداد لبابل… ومن أور إلى الأهوار، رحلة عمر مع صديقي جون من أمريكا
انطلقت رحلتنا من بغداد، قلب العراق النابض، حيث تجوّلنا في شوارع الكرخ والرصافة، وشربنا الشاي على ضفاف دجلة. بعدها توجهنا إلى بابل، أرض الملوك والحدائق المعلقة، حيث وقف جون مدهوش قدام بوابة عشتار وتعلم عن نبوخذنصر وأسرار الحضارة البابلية.
ومن هناك، شدينا الرحال إلى أور، مهد النبي إبراهيم، وشاهدنا الزقورة ترتفع شامخة وسط الصحراء كأنها تحكي للتاريخ، ثم وصلنا إلى الأهوار، عالم ثاني من السكينة والسحر، وجرب جون التنقل بالمشاحيف وتذوّق السمك المشوي على الطريقة الميسانية.
ختمنا الرحلة في سامراء، عند الملوية، رمز العباسيين، حيث كان يردد جون: “ما كنت أتوقع إن العراق يحتوي كل هذا الجمال والتنوع!”

From Baghdad to Babylon… and from Ur to the Marshes – An Unforgettable Journey with My Friend John from the USA
Our journey began in Baghdad, the beating heart of Iraq. We wandered through the historic streets of Karkh and Rusafa, sipped tea by the Tigris, and soaked in the spirit of the old city. Then we headed to Babylon, the land of kings and myths, where John stood in awe before the Ishtar Gate, learning about Nebuchadnezzar and the legacy of this ancient civilization.
From there, we traveled south to Ur, the birthplace of Prophet Abraham, where the great ziggurat still stands tall, whispering stories from 4,000 years ago. Then came the highlight for John — the Iraqi Marshes, a peaceful world of water and reeds. He rode in a traditional mashhoof and tasted freshly grilled fish made the southern way.
We ended our journey in Samarra, standing before the spiraling Malwiya Minaret, a masterpiece of Abbasid architecture. John kept saying, “I never imagined Iraq would be this beautiful and full of life.”
As a guide, these are the moments I live for — seeing my country through the eyes of someone discovering it for the first time.
