Mahinestan Raheb Historical Residence; One of the
old houses of Kashan in the center of Darb Bagh
neighborhood has been registered as one of the
national monuments of Iran on August 10, 2005.
It dates back to the middle of the Qajar era. This
house has three separate courtyards as an inner
courtyard, an outer courtyard and a crew yard and
Persian and Persian services in the courtyard.
The whole house is formed on two floors and in the
form of three sides of construction around two
courtyards. Mahinestan Raheb was renovated in
2010 under the supervision of Mr. Seyed Akbar Hali, Professor of Iranian Architecture, and in 2014, the
renovation of this building was completed.
The combination of modern day facilities with the
historical atmosphere of this house has provided a
very pleasant stay for guests.
Mahinestan Raheb historical house has been selected as the most luxurious historical residence by the
Cultural Heritage Organization.

Karim Khan located in Shiraz, dates back to the Zandieh dynasty in Iran.
The original structure of the citadel dates back to the period before Karim Khan, but after Karim Khan chooses Shiraz as the capital of his kingdom began to expand the city and erect structures for its prosperity.
King of Zand ordered the best architects of that time, between 1145 and 1146 AH, to build it with the most artistic structure as one of the headquarters of Khan Zand.
With the arrival of the Qajars, a miniature painting has been made in the citadel. In the meantime, the Zandieh era paintings were removed. Parts of the plasters of the wall were carved, and other beautifications were replaced.
The materials used in this structure are Tabriz brick and marble, also a type of limestone called Gandmak. This arg is rectangular and has a land area of 4,000 m2 and is in the center of a 12,800 m2 compound. The Citadel of Karim Khan consists of four high walls connected by four 14 m round towers made of stone and lime.
Each 12 m wall is 3 meters thick. Today, one of these towers is tilted. Each tower has three floors with two rooms that have a spiral-shaped staircase to the top.
There are various sections inside the citadel such as three porches, each with six rooms decorated in miniatures, fountains, and gardens.
The ceremonial part of the citadel has a porch on both sides with 2 stone columns and 6 rooms. Each room has a porch, muqarnas, stained glass, a closet, an array, which all are connected by a corridor and stairs.

Right before households and families set aside a space for a “haft-seen,” or a collection of items that symbolize a different hope for the new year. While some families add their own variations to the haft-seen, there are seven items that are always included:

Sabzeh: Some kind of seed sprout that will continue to grow in the weeks leading up to the holiday, symbolizing rebirth and renewal.
Senjed: Ideally a sweet dried fruit from a lotus tree , also known as silverberry or Persian olive, which is thought to spark love.
Sib: Apples, for beauty and health/fertility.
Seer: Garlic, symbolizing medicine and protection.
Samanu: A pudding made of sprouted wheat, pointing affluence.
Serkeh: Vinegar, for the patience and wisdom that comes with aging.
Sumac: A Persian spice made out of crushed sour red berries, symbolizing the sunrise of a new day and love.

Now the haft-seen is yours to customize. Traditions have evolved to the point where several other things can be included. For mirror symbolizing reflection, colored eggs for fertility, coins for prosperity, or sometimes a volume of poetry by Hafez, as a place of honor among Iran’s most beloved poets.

On the last Wednesday before Nowruz, many celebrate the Iranian festival Charshanbe Suri, “Eve of Red Wednesday.”

Chahar Shanbeh Suri celebration, is one of the festivals in Iran, usually starts in the evening, with people making bonfires in the streets and jumping over them or go to doors banging spoons to scare away bad luck. Fire and light hoped for health and happiness through the coming year. The word “soor” in Chaharshanbe soori means fire and symbolizes red color which either can be referred to fire or red color of the face that shows healthiness.

Some believe jumping over bonfires is a way of taking away negative energy, sickness, and misfortune and in turn bringing fortune, warmth, and energy. The idea, is to keeping with Nowruz’s overarching theme of renewal, is to cleanse away the past year so you can start the new one refreshed and renewed.
In ancient Iranian festivals, the fire had great importance and it was considered everywhere as a symbol of purity and goodness.

Chaharshanbeh Suri has its roots in the Zoroastrian celebrations of the battles of fire against evil. Granted, this time-honored religion does not put a lot of emphasis on rituals, but rather the ethical practices of “Good Words, Good Thoughts and Good Deeds”.
