Persepolis is the Greek name (from perses polis for 'Persian City') for the ancient city of Parsa, located seventy miles northeast of Shiraz in present-day Iran. The name Parsa meant 'City of The Persians' and construction began at the site in 518 BCE under the rule of King Darius the Great (who reigned 522-486 BCE). It exemplifies the Achaemenid style of architecture. UNESCO declared the ruins of Persepolis a World Heritage Site in 1979. The complex is raised high on a walled platform, with five "palaces" or halls of varying size, and grand entrances. The function of Persepolis remains quite unclear. It was not one of the largest cities in Persia, let alone the rest of the empire, but appears to have been a grand ceremonial complex that was only occupied seasonally. The complex was taken by the army of Alexander the Great in 330 BC, and soon after the wooden parts were completely destroyed by fire, very likely deliberately.

Congratulations to the Kurds and the people of Kermanshah ...
The 26th World Heritage Site of Iran was registered by UNESCO as the beautiful region of Uramanat. Uraman is a historical and cultural heritage of Kurdish regions in the west of Iran.
The Uramanat / Horaman World Landscape Cultural heritage is located in the provinces of Kermanshah and Kurdistan with about 409,000 hectares of land and territory, of which 106,000 hectares are related to the area and 303,000 hectares are part of the territory.
Horaman or Uramanat is the name of historical regions with stepped texture and special customs that include parts of Sarvabad, Sanandaj and Kamyaran cities in Kurdistan province and Ravansar, Paveh, Javanrood and Thalas Babajani cities in Kermanshah province. The main part of the Horaman / Uramanat cultural landscape includes the valleys of Zahorud, Oraman Takht and Lahun.
According to the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, there are about 700 villages in the Horaman / Uramanat area. This region has a historical antiquity with a rich cultural background, customs and special cultural symbols, each of which shows the corners of the rich and fruitful culture of this region. The history of living in this region dates back to prehistoric times, when the discovery of Horaman deeds confirms the existence of Assyrian, Median, Achaemenid and Greek rule.
this area is very important in plant paleontology studies. A large part is a wooded area. Oak trees are the most common trees in these forests. The most famous forests are Boz or Bozin, Palangane and Marakhil.
