On August 30/31, 2023 you'll get to see a rare blue supermoon! That won't happen again until 2032 or 2037. Now the moon won't actually look blue. It's called a blue moon because it's our 2nd full moon of the month. The term blue moon is believed to have originated in 1883 after the eruption of Krakatoa.
The volcano put so much dust in the atmosphere that the moon actually looked blue in color. This was so unusual that the term "once in a Blue Moon" was coined. Since it's a supermoon it will appear 14% larger and even 30% brighter than a typical moon. The last super blue moon happened in 2009 and the next won't be until 2032. Another funfact: Next to the moon you'll see a bright dot. Actually it's not a star, but the planet Saturn, which is also much closer to us than usual. At the moment its rings are even brighter than the planet itself, due to an phenomenon, called "opposition effect". Even with a small telescope you can see the rings. Don't miss my upcoming stream.
