Have You Ever Heard about Arba’een? If not, that’s not a Surprise.
The third imam of Islam (Imam Hussein as) is a symbol of a free soul who adheres to the truth under any circumstances (under threat, under attack, under humiliation, or under the pressure of having his family murdered).
After a glorious war in which Imam fought for the righteous, he was defeated and martyred on a day we call Ashura. Arba’een is the 40th day after the Imam’s martyrdom, observed by all Muslims all around the globe, all wearing black as a sign of sorrow and mourning.
Of the glory of the observance, it suffices to say that the number of its participants surpassed 20 million in the last year. Luckily, Iran is one of the best countries to experience an authentic and original Arba’een.

Just ask every Iranian person you see to name some of the greatest Persian poets of all time and you will definitely hear them say “Hafez.”
Hafez (also spelled Hafiz) is not only revered as a great port among Iranians, he is also considered to be one of the best by scholars such as Goethe and Nietzsche, the latter considering Hafez as an epitome of Oriental wisdom and Sufism.
Not that we’re on the commemoration day of Hafez, let’s see what makes Hafez so popular and his poetry so perfect.
There’s a genre of poetry called Ghazal in Persian poetry. This genre was used by some poets before and after Hafez, but it was Hafez who perfected the genre in his book of poetry called The Divan of Hafez.
Hafez’s life had many ups and downs since he enjoyed court patronage for some time and then fell into disfavor. All in all, he had his heart set on ideas way beyond court and patronage since he believed:
“On the day that I die, a glimpse of you may I behold,
And as Hafez,
From life’s desire leap into eternity , and I will rise!”

To change Rial into Toman, you have to cross out the last zero. For example, 10.000 Rials would be only 1000 Tomans.

Khur Salt Lake during the dry season, Tabas, Iran. Ignorant before the heavens of my life, I stand and gaze in wonder. Oh the vastness of the stars. Their rising and descent. How still. Let me put aside every desire, every relationship except this one, so that my heart grows used to its farthest spaces.
