After few days of bad weather we went out for whale watching this morning. We didn't have to go far because the whales were waiting for us really close to our harbour in Hauganes🐳

We are not only seeing humpback whales on our tours. Minke whales have also been a regular guest on our tours.

Because the whales have been so far inside the fjord for last few days we have been going out from Akureyri. And that gives us the chance to take a look at this waterfall. What is special about this waterfall is that has hot water flowing in the ocean.

Friends - from tomorrow morning we will sail again from our beautiful harbor in Hauganes. 🥳 Please arrive at least 30 min before departure so you'll have time to put the overalls on, it can be quite cold out on the ocean, even though the whales are close by since we are located by the center of the fjord.

Dear friends, please note that for the next couple of days ALL TOURS will depart from Port of Akureyri (Fiskitangi, to be exact) because the whales have decided to stay deep inside the fjord and so it is a shorter sail for you, for the time being. We will of course notify you when tours move back to Hauganes, which will depend on what our friends the whales decide to do. ❤🐋

Here we go again.

An eruption started northeast of Sýlingarfell after 6am on Thursday. An earthquake swarm had started in the magma intrusion north of Grindavík around half an hour earlier.

Short - beaked common dolphin came to Hauganes to day. We had the luck to watch them play around in front of our harbour.
Really rear sight and even the oldest fisherman in our fjor are amazed by this new guests! 🐬

Today we saw something incredible. We found a Fin whale only a 10 minute sail away from Hauganes, our village. Fin whales are the second biggest animal living on planet earth and are rare to see in our fjord.
