The Reykjavík capital area has 17 geothermally heated swimming pools, and now a beautiful lagoon as well after Sky Lagoon opened up🤗
Our pools are a mix of a sport-centre, a water-slide park and a spa with hot tubs and steam baths. Run-on geothermal water from boreholes, you could say this is where Iceland's hot springs meet the city culture. So if you haven't paid one of them a visit when here, you must do so on your next trip! 🥰🏊

As many of you know, Iceland has mainly black sand beaches. Black sand beaches rise from volcanic ashes, but Iceland has about 130 volcanos with many being still active. When molten lava enters the water, a violent interaction occurs between the hot lava and the sea water. The lava cools down so rapidly that it breaks into debris and sand instantly 🤗🔥🌋❄️

Few open areas in Reykjavík occupy a more solid place in the hearts of the city's inhabitants than the Pond (Tjörnin) and its immediate surroundings, Hljómskálagarðurinn and Vatnsmýrin, where nature and human life meet in the middle of a metropolis in a unique way 🦢🕊🌱🌳

Iceland's New Year's bonfires are a tradition reaching back to the 18th century. In the early 19th century, they were raucous and loud affairs, with displays of public drunkenness, but today, they're family entertainment where people symbolically burn away the old year to make room for the new year 🔥🔥🔥

Unfortunately there will be no bonfires this year due to restrictions, but here's hoping for next year! 🤗🙏
