Last night in Flateyjardalur. Last trip of the season and it could not have been better! Lovely riding up to Heiðarhús, and there we got perfectly still weather for a bonfire. Full moon / super moon lighting up the whole valley, and despite that, the northern lights were still visible. Just magic. This place never disappoints 🥰🥰🥰

Will you join us on this tour autumn ‘25? 🙃

Yesterday we came back from 2 days of riding into the hidden valley - Flateyjardalur. The plan was 4 days, but due to snow/ice/cold weather we had to adjust a bit. We rode through the beautiful winter landscape, crossed rivers with big icechuncks covering the surface, stayed overnight in a hut with no water, electricity or reception. Northern lights treated us well during our bonfire. A trip not to forget 🥰
Thanks Cloudno9style for bringing this great group!

The Dream tour project keeps bringing us new dreams;
We now present the project LANDVÆTTIR / GUARDIANS OF ICELAND!!

A riding adventure ongoing for the next 4 years; 2025-2028, covering all 4 quarters of Iceland with a focus on each part every year!

In 2025 we will put our focus on the North of Iceland. In total 39 days in 5 different parts. Riding great trails from the arctic seaside of the north to the higher grounds of the great Northern Highlands. We‘ll ride along coastlines and rivers, through valleys and wilderness, visit magnificent places and tell stories of the past. The Eagle of the North will for sure watch over us on our journey. 😊

Landvættir refers to all the mystic creatures of Iceland which play a big role in our history. The Guardians of Iceland appear in an old story from Landnámabók, when King Harald of Norway told one of his warlocks to travel to Iceland in some altered shape and bring back useful information about this island in the north. The warlock set out in the shape of a whale, and when he came near to the land he saw mountains and hills full of guardian spirits, and each time he reached a new part he was driven away. In the East by a huge dragon followed by snakes, toads and lizards who blew atter and poison at him. In the North by a great eagle with wings so big that they filled up the fjord he was entering, followed by many smaller birds screaming out loud. In the West by an enormous bull followed by other huge creatures stomping the ground so rocks and mountains trembled. And finally in the South by a huge giant with an iron staff, followed by trolls and elves blocking access to the land. The warlock swam terrified back to Norway and told king Harald to give up any plans to overtake this little island in the north!

Details and further information you‘ll find on our website www.ridingiceland.is
For now the Landvættir tours are only bookable by email ([email protected]) and those who have been on a multiple day tour with us before will get 10% discount on the price and booking priority until 30th of June '24

The first tour of 2024 season (Norther Lights tour) started with 2 days of rather uncomfortable winter weather, but ended with a beautiful last day of sunshine!

Part of training young horses is taking them out as a handhorse. Here you see Dúi, who was totally stressed about everything when he first came inside. Now he’s doing so well that I could even take a video while handhorse riding! 🥰😍 (lots of credit for this of course go to my little, brave, steady Ásdís, who is just the perfect leading horse)

🥰 Saltvík, our home 🥰

Will this place with the 'million dollar view' be your workspace this summer?!
Are you or do you know someone who would like to work in our guesthouse from June 1st to the end of September (or possibly the end of October)?

We are looking for someone who will be the face of our small guesthouse (7 rooms) this summer. Someone who knows how to get things done, is customer-oriented, speaks English fluently and preferably also has experience with cleaning work in a hotel or guesthouse, or otherwise is at least used to rolling up their sleeves for other types of work.

Our guesthouse is part of the Saltvík horse farm in the north of Iceland, near Húsavík, from where we organize multi-day horse treks as well as short day trips. The person we are looking for does not necessarily has to have anything to do with horses (there are plenty of guests who are not into horses either 😉), but must be open to learn something about them because guests often have questions about the rides and/or want to take a ride themselves during their stay. Of course everything is about horses here, so you’ll have to be able to handle quite a bit of horsetalk. Haha!
To get a horse person/rider would of course be great, as long as it is clear that the work does not involve working with the horses/tours. Contact with the horses will therefore be limited to your free time!

The work includes:
- cleaning the rooms (including making beds) and the kitchen/breakfast room/reception and also cleaning the "old farmhouse" where our tour groups stay for the multi-day horse tours
- cleaning/preparing the hot tubs
- doing the laundry and/or take the laundry to the launderette in Húsavík
- preparing/providing the breakfast buffet
- checking in and out of guests
- answer phone/email
- grocery shopping / running errands

The girls we have hired for the horse part of the company all work in the guesthouse where necessary as well. The person we are looking for will have to ensure that what needs to be done happens, also when it's the other girls who do the work. That is why we are looking for someone of at least 25 years of age (if experienced working in a hotel/guesthouse, younger is negotiable).

You must be in possession of a (B) driver's license.

It would be great if you also enjoy cooking for small (up to 8 people) groups that come on tour with us. Not a must, but a big plus 😉

Our enthusiastic, small team shares the staff rooms on the farm.
Because you will officially be employed on a temporary basis, it is necessary to be a EU citizen and open a bank account here (we can help with this once you get here).

Hoping to greet you here this summer as our new 'Saltvík family member'! Please send us an email if you're interested or when you have any questions ([email protected] and/or [email protected]).
