Late last night, the magma flow lurking beneath the Reykjanes Peninsula since early November dramatically broke the surface at Sundhnúkagígar, a line of volcanic craters just north of the small town of Grindavík. This volcanic spectacle unfolded in an awe-inspiring display of Mother Nature's formidable powers. Although the recent seismic activity has proven unnerving for the residents of Grindavík, which was evacuated in November, the eruption does bring a sense of relief, resolving the uncertainty of six weeks of random earthquakes and constant threats of eruptions. Come and view this breathtaking event for yourself!
