For those interested.

There is a TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE that starts 19:39 and ends 20:28 tonight. It will only be partially visible from Reykjavik.

Of course, keep in mind that you should never look directly at the Sun. You can seriously hurt your eyes, and even go blind.

Proper eye protection, like eclipse glasses or a special solar filter, is the only safe option. Sunglasses don't work.

** ATTENTION TRAVELERS **

An eruption has started on the Reykjanes Peninsula. Flights are currently unaffected, however traffic from Reykjavík to Keflavík is interrupted due to people driving and trying to view the eruption.

The local law enforcement has closed the road to Keflavík for now (Reykjanesbraut). Grindavík has been evacuated. So far no one has been hurt, or in any immediate danger, and everybody was evacuated safely from the area.

The eruption happened very fast and experts are currently figuring out the details, it is definitely more powerful than previous eruptions and it is not recommended to go and see it, it is not safe and crowds will interrupt local law enforcements as well as search and rescue units that are in the area.
