Scandic Mountain Guides specializes in ski touring in the winter and hiking in summer. Our headquarters are located in Ólafsfjorður, and Tröllaskagi (the Troll peninsula) is our main ski touring area, a world-class skiing area with thousands of slopes waiting for their first descents. Hafstein and Björgvin Björgvinsson are both former ski racers and members of the Icelandic Olympic team in 1998, 2

002, 2006 and 2010. In recent years they have mainly engaged in ski touring guiding and heliski guiding for Viking Heliskiing, and they are founders of Viking. Scandic Mountain Guides has a powerful team of skilful and experienced ski guides specializing in challenging conditions. The Troll Peninsula, our main skiing area, has variable terrain to offer and choices that should fit all types of skiers and hikers. Ski Touring
In terms of Ski touring, there are few places in the world with as many possibilities as the Troll peninsula. The area is vast and largely unexplored. The skiing slopes are truly unique, with a panorama view of amazing slopes waiting for their first descents. Prepare for different skiing conditions; fresh powder skiing, skiing in the stable spring corn snow, which is perfect for steep and extreme skiing and more exposed lines than you typically find where avalanches are more likely. Our vertical drop is up to 1500m or approximately 5000 ft. in the unbelievable Arctic mountains. During winter, you can ski until it is dark and watch the majestic northern lights dance in the sky. In the springtime, there is nothing like skiing down slopes in between the towering peaks, ending the ride where the shoreline meets the North Atlantic. Hiking - Trekking tours
Our hiking/trekking tour takes place on the excellent Troll peninsula from the 1st of July to the 15th of September each year. Hiking between fjords in Troll peninsula is a unique experience, where the landscape and the closeness to the ocean offer incredible options for trekking tours. Accommodation in our trekking tours can vary from mountain hut, tent or hostel accommodation in a sleeping bag to made-up beds in a guest house or hotel. It all depends on the tour you are planning with us. We will tailor made your trekking tour according to your needs and wishes and our advice. “Exactly what I wanted... I booked a week of private ski guiding and added a couple of heli drops in for good measures. My local guide (Kristjan ) was excellent and introduced me to amazing back-country lines coupled with some great climbs.
We basically drove around checking out zones and hiked in, and rode some great lines. Brilliant fun and will be back for sure! Many thanks, guys!”
