The puffling season is coming to an end... this little puffling was happy to see the ocean and flew far away in to the sunset, to hopefully return to Vestmannaeyjar one day ❤️🐧👋😘

💪A puffling's journey after leaving the nest is nothing short of remarkable. Born in a dark burrow, the young puffin spends weeks growing and gaining strength, hidden away from the outside world. When the time comes, usually under the cover of darkness, the puffling makes its way to the sea for the first time, guided by the moon's reflection on the water.

🧑‍🏫This leap into the unknown marks the start of a challenging adventure. The puffling must learn to fend for itself, navigating vast oceans and avoiding predators. For months, it will drift and forage, growing stronger and more resilient. The young puffin’s survival hinges on its instincts and the lessons learned in these early days.

⛰️Eventually, after years at sea, the puffling will return to the cliffs where it was born.

👧🏼Our youngest staff member got her wish fulfilled today when she invited her kindergarten class on a small tour around the island, with a picnic.

🥰With no disrespect to all of our other wonderful customers this summer, this is byfar the most adorable group we have had on our bus.

We all had a great time together 🎉

In april 2018 CBS Sunday Morning did a segment on the puffling rescue mission in Vestmannaeyjar. Aron, one of our employees and our driver's son played a large part in the segment as they followed our family around for a night of puffling rescuing. What a wonderful season the puffling season is and how fortunate we who live here and our guests are to witness and participate in this tradition

Mánudaginn 12.ágúst hefst aftur hefðbundin 7 ferða áætlun Herjólfs.

Síðustu 6 vikur höfum við siglt þétta 8 ferða áætlun. Vel hefur gengið að sigla, tímaáætlanir hafa staðist vel og viðskiptavinir almennt ánægðir með þessa þjónustuaukningu. Vonandi er þetta eitthvað sem hægt verður að bjóða upp á áfram í framtíðinni.

Due to the local festival (Þjóðhátíð) there will be a change in our schedule. Tomorrow we will not be able to stop in Herjólfsdalur and we will be out of operation from Thursday 1st of August until Tuesday 6th of August. Looking forward to seeing you again on Wednesday the 7th of August 🎉

🌏 Vestmannaeyjar are the largest puffin colony in the world
🐧The Atlantic puffin (fratercula arctica) is a beautiful bird and like Iceland which has for 15 consecutive years held the title of the worlds most gender equal country, the puffin is also a very gender equal species
👫 The puffin is monogamous, mates for life and shares responsibilities in the incubation and upbringing of the baby pufflings

🐧Stórhöfði, our most popular stop, is home to one of the worlds largest puffin colonies
🌪🏆It is the windiest place in Europe and holds the record for lowest on land observation of air pressure in the continent.
🐑These local sheep however thrive well at Stórhöfði and undoubtedly have some of the worlds best panoramic views from their pastures overlooking these beautiful islands to the south.

We want to wish our friends from the U.S. happy 4th of July, for today is their Independence day 🇺🇲
U.S. citizens have been a large proportion of our customers from day one and considering that this weekend we are commemorating the end of the 1973 eruption on Heimaey the U.S., especially the military aided our community a lot during and in the aftermath of the eruption. For that we are especially grateful ❤️🙏🇮🇸🇺🇲
