Last week I worked as an Italian-English on the occasion of a property conveyance meeting at a notarial office in Italy.

A British couple had reached out a few weeks before, asking me to assist them not only as an interpreter during the conveyance meeting, but also to translate all the relevant documents from into .

With the help of a trusted native English colleague, I provided the clients and the notary with the of the property sale deed and a couple of enclosures, including the energy performance certificate of the building.

In addition, I exchanged emails with the notary to clarify doubts and questions about specific clauses in the deed on behalf of my British clients prior to the meeting.

During the conveyance meeting, I helped the notary, the buyers and the sellers share further information about the property and the steps to follow after the purchase of the house, and I fulfilled all the formalities required by law when a party to the conveyance can't speak or understand Italian. In particular, my duty consisted in reading out the sale deed in English after the notary had read it out in Italian.

My British clients were very satisfied with my swift responses to their inquiries and the comprehensive service I was able to offer them.

How gratifying is it to finally ‘touch’ the outcome of your sweat and toil?

Between September and November of last year, I worked on the heavy of the English to Italian of Anna Wooster Pasti’s memoir, The English Girl in Leningrad.

The author, an English ballet dance instructor living in Italy since the early 1960s, decided it was time to tell the world about the period she had spent as a classical dance student at the prestigious Vaganova Academy during Khrushchev’s USSR.

First published in English at the start of 2022, the book was translated into Italian by Anna herself, but she turned to me to edit her translation.

My job consisted in thoroughly revising the grammar, syntax and punctuation of the whole Italian memoir, and I must confess it was no easy task! But all’s well that ends well, and here it is, eventually published and available for purchase on Amazon.

This English to Italian editing job can probably be considered one of my most important professional endavours in 13 years. It was super interesting too, as it has introduced me to the world of classical dance and ballet, which was quite unknown to me. In addition, it’s an excellent account of what the USSR was like in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

I spend my weekdays, and from time to time my weekends, working on business and/or technical and tasks for many different clients.

So, one might think that a translator would do anything but translate in their free time.

Well, I do have lots of interests, from jogging to reading and doing martial arts, but guess what? Whenever I get to have some spare time, I translate!
