Athena Lemnia, just a mere 5 centuries BC, Phidias, with an incredible exhibition on at the Roman Capitoline Museum , one of the most fascinating in Rome. 'THE' architect of the Greek Parthenon and models. Completely mind boggling to even comprehend how old these artefacts are. Off to see other parts of the Parthenon in London, can't wait !

The original pieces of this incredibile acrolith are preserved here in Rome in the incredible , so this is your home! Emperor Constantine sitting proudly and so regal and used to be inside the Basilica of Maxentius, but there's a long and fascinating story behind all of this, .

Nothing like the blue sky in Rome, looking over the River Tiber and looking at the only bridge in Rome built by the Pope's, Pope Sixtus IV for the Jubilee Year of 1475, the same Pope who had the glorious Sistine Chapel built.

There are many reasons we still have so much information about Ancient Rome, but one of the most amazing reasons is a city map known as the Forma Urbis, made out of 150 different marble slabs engraved with: the river, the streets and the blue print of all the public buildings, temples, theatres and not only. Unbelievable and dating back to 203 AD by Emperor Septimius Severus and is 18 x 14 meters (approx 54 x 42 feet). Finally we get to see these amazing fragments. Those Romans were so sophisticated it's quite mind boggling.

My favorite road in the world -The Appian Way 313 BC and 650 km long. Just one of the reasons Ancient Rome becomes more and more powerful, military roads with easy access backwards and forwards plus unique Military tactics. Every single piece of land touching the Mediterranean is part of the Roman Empire - and beyond including part of my beautiful England too! Cheeky lot!

La proganda Romana, the bigger, the better, you intimidate! This beautiful marble foot is part of a 50 foot tall seated statue, foot of Emperor Costantine. Today the statue has been completely reintegrated and financed by the Prada Foundation. See it to believe it !

Last night in Sardinia and how can you not do some wine tasting in the beautiful vineyards? Wines in Sardinia are delish: minerality from all the surrounding granite, sapidity from being so close to the sea and the local winds and sun to top it all off. Is this my new life as a Sommelier ?

And what happens inside the Pantheon every year between 12 o'clock and 1 on the 21st April? The sun shines exactly on the front door, a Meridian, a Sun Dial, utterly outstanding ...and then a cloud appeared, but still mind boggling.

There are two Rome's in Rome and her surroundings 1) Rome over ground, on today's ground level and 2) Rome underground dating back to Imperial Rome, which means anything from 27 BC to 476 AD.
Visit the magnificent 'cripto portico' part of the Imperial Palace built by Emperor Domitian's favorite architect "Rabirio" inside the 135 acres of the Vatican Gardens, Villa Barberini, the Apostolic Palace in Castel Gandolfo.

Just a short ride from Rome and part of the gardens are built on and around Emperor Domitian's Palace dating back to 80 AD. There are 20 gardeners to look after this beauty. What is an acrolith ? A gigantic, larger than life statue, generally with the head, arms and legs made out of marble and the rest of the statue in a different stone or in this case bronze. A magnificent re-construction of the 16 meter tall seated statue of Emperor Costantine, dating back to the early 4th century AD from Rome. Nearly 50 feet tall, look at the people in the background. Breathtaking....and on it's way to Rome!

The Appian Way 312 BC and YES it has now officially been candidated to become yet another UNESCO site it this beautiful country that I am lucky enough to love in...Italy, my Love.
Italy has the largest number of Unesco sites in one country, in the whole world, so why don't we add one more?
