With been a bit spoilt by our recent guests of Caelum Aria. Gracious, kind, and very respectful - all of them were enthusiastic and treated our home as if it were their own. The feedback from them has also been amazing, which brings joy to our hearts and validates why we do what we do.

And that’s a wrap! Season 2023 has come to an end and it’s been incredibly rewarding.

We had guests from all over the world. From Canada, to England, Switzerland, the US, Australia and many more countries.

We made lots of new interesting friends & connections.

Our romantic rooftop terrace inspired love and commitment, leading to one surprise elopement and one wedding proposal! 💍 Isn’t that the greatest testimonial?

And overall our guests’ feedback’s remained consistently glorious - we worked hard to ensure our hospitality level is as high as it gets, and it certainly paid off - we’ve remained Super Hosts, something we’re very proud of.

To celebrate the end of the season, Anna and Pasquale took a day trip to the unique town of Matera, 1.5 h away from Ostuni- a must see if you’re traveling down south! [here’s some snapshots for you!] Elisabetta, on the other hand, is back in London wrapping up her season as a wedding planner and getting ready for one last wedding in… you guessed it… Puglia!

We will be resting up and then take some time to think about our 2024 season, launching a website and a newsletter feed to keep our clients and those planning a holiday in Ostuni up to date with offers, useful info and inspiration.

Our Caelum Aria home reopened its doors yesterday. We feel excited by a new summer of meeting guests, creating connections and hearing great stories!

We’re currently FULLY BOOKED for the whole of May, June and July. The only dates still available for the rest of the season are:

+ 19-24 Sept

When we furnished Caelum • Ostuni] Aria we wondered how much time would people realistically spend cooking and eating indoors. After all, there is so much to do out and about… And so many B&Bs in Ostuni have super tiny kitchens, with barely any s**ce to move, let alone cook. Yet we knew Caelum Aria wasn’t going to be just like any other B&B.

But here’s the thing: we have a stunning terrace screaming for al fresco dining. We have a full size dining area too… Why would people choose such a beautiful home to eat every breakfast lunch and dinner in a restaurant? And also, we know that our guests are lovers of exquisite food and wine. They enjoy eating out but they also love cooking their own dinner with fresh local ingredients.

So we followed our gut and decided the kitchen needed to be just as comfortable as the rest of the house.

Time and time again our guests have shown us that they thoroughly enjoyed eating at home. So following our gut has definitely paid off.

Quando abbiamo arredato Caelum • Ostuni] Aria ci siamo chiesti se realisticamente i nostri ospiti volessero cucinare e mangiare in casa. Dopotutto, c'è così tanto da fare e vedere in zona... La maggioranza dei B&B a Ostuni hanno cucine minuscole, con pochissimo spazio per muoversi e per cucinare. Sapevamo, però, che Caelum Aria non sarebbe stato come qualsiasi altro B&B.

Abbiamo una splendida terrazza, perfetta per cenare all'aperto. Abbiamo una sala da pranzo... Perché scegliere una casa così per poi mangiare sempre al ristorante? I nostri ospiti sono amanti della buona cucina. Gli piace mangiare fuori, sì, ma amano anche cucinare con ingredienti freschi locali.

Abbiamo seguito il nostro istinto e abbiamo deciso che la cucina doveva essere comoda - esattamente come il resto della casa.

Una delle scelte migliori che abbiamo fatto visto il feedback dei nostri ospiti.

We are loving the conversations we’re having with clients booking Caelum • Ostuni] for their summer 2023 holiday.

Some are getting married and choosing our home for their honeymoon. Some are traveling all the way from across the world to tour Italy and are using Caelum as their base to explore Puglia. Others still are complete Italy novices, making Ostuni the destination for their first ever trip to Italy.

If the word determination could be captured in a picture, this would be it. When we started looking at the layout of this house, we truly felt the first level needed to be the living s**ce of all living s**ces - a bright, fresh, stylish and comfortable s**ce, with a dining area separate from the living room.

But doing this meant facing more than one challenge with the bedroom. The obvious solution would have been to do what 90% of Ostuni property owners do: position the bed in the alcove. The more we considered it, the more we felt this was not going to be the future of that s**ce. And so we stubbornly faced the challenges that transforming that s**ce brought, holding tight to the vision for that elevated, home for home living s**ce.

Was it worth it? 100%. We had guests staying with us for long stretches while working remotely from Caelum and their feedback was amazing!

One of our fabulous guests recently described the bedroom of Caelum Aria “rather cozy”. He’s tall - and we mean, tall - which obviously made us wonder how comfortable he would be in this s**ce. Except we needn’t worry…

Caelum Aria is a real mix of taller and lower ceilings - it’s the peculiarity of these ancient homes, something we point out both in the listing of Caelum and the brochure we share we all our guests.

We had real trepidation about this seriously minimalist room, going over the plans a million times to make sure pur guests would enjoy it. But in all honesty, we love it.

It’s cozy, intimate, authentic and minimal.

Uno dei nostri ospiti ha recentemente descritto la camera da letto di Caelum Aria come "davvero accogliente". Questo ragazzo è alto - e quando diciamo “alto” intendiamo davvero alto! - il che ovviamente ci ha fatto domandare quanto sarebbe stato a suo agio in questo spazio. A quanto pare non avevamo bisogno di preoccuparci preoccuparci...

Soffitti alti e bassi: questa è la particolarità di di case antiche come Caelum Aria, una cosa che segnaliamo sia nell’annuncio di Caelum che nella brochure che condividiamo con tutti i nostri ospiti.

Abbiamo pianificato questa stanza con trepidazione, riguardando i piani un milione di volte per assicurarci che non solo fosse adeguata all’uso, ma che fosse anche una stanza confortevole. In tutta onestà, noi la adoriamo.

È una camera accogliente, intima, autentica e minimale.

Caelum *AQUA* • the name choice is not random. Far from it. We never envisaged having two properties. Our plan was for one Caelum - a two bedroom, three floor house with a stunning rooftop. But as it happens when you’re working with historical properties, we soon realised that our “to every problem there must be a solution” optimism had a very expensive price tag and would have added months of work to preserve the structural soundness of this centuries old building.

So off we went, with a project for two holiday homes, both with their own quirky s**ces and the need to clearly see what their key features would be.

From there, a series of important decisions were made. Caelum AQUA, our ground level home, had a cave that screamed pool! 💦

Brainstorming for a name led to focusing on the key element connected to this home - water (aka “aqua”), which then dictated some of the stylistic choices, such as the fabrics and colours used for the bespoke Arabic Majlis-inspired sofa.

The focus in Caelum Aqua is that sense of calm and peace that water gives you, while playing with authentic elements of Puglia, such as the olive wood coffee table and traditional stone.

Caelum Aqua is our ground floor apartment - on street level, you have a studio-like s**ce: as you enter you find a cozy bespoke sofa on the left, facing the pool in the cave, your kitchenette, and through to the alcove, the bedroom and bathroom.

As the name suggests, with the pool being the key feature, the dominant colour as you enter is this aqua green hue, something we also focused on when we had the sofa made.

While the rest of the colours and materials are in keeping with Ostuni’s tradition - stone, beige and white.

A mix of honouring the heritage of this 200 years old property and enhancing its key feature.

Coming back from shopping last night, we observed two neighbours (“dirimpettai” as we say in Italy) talking to each other from their facing balconies. “He told me I have beautiful blue eyes that would really stand out if I let my hair go grey,” one says. “That’s the best thing you could have done,” said the other. They went on and on. For at least 15 minutes, probably more - who knows… we eventually went inside.

It was a classically southern Italian moment.

In Italy if you have a balcony, you make the most of it. You dress it up. A floating curtain, a table, chairs, a beautiful plant... And then you just savour stillness, in the off chance that a “dirimpettaio” might fancy a chat across balconies about trivial or deeper things...

At Caelum Aria you’re in luck, as you get to enjoy it all. Located in “Ostuni Ottocentesca” (aka 1800’s Ostuni), just 3 minutes walk to Piazza della Libertà, your rooftop gives you the s**ce you need to enjoy peace, relaxation and all the views from your dining table or sun loungers.

Soon to come is our rooftop kitchenette. We get the feeling that once it’s ready, you might never want to leave the house…

Benvenuti!
We officially open our doors to our first guests this Sunday, and while we feel we have underestimated the monumental amount of work that goes with setting up our airBnBs (… and we mean, SERIOUSLY underestimated *enter dazed emoji*), the excitement is palpable.

We hope our guests will be just as excited and pleased with their little home for a few days as we are for them.

Preparare tutto per l’apertura dei nostri due airBnB non è stata una passeggiata (abbiamo enormemente sottovalutato quanto tempo richiede avviare due case vacanza!), ma ce l’abbiamo fatta e siamo in trepidazione.
