“With the students in just about two hours, we let ourselves be enveloped by the fantastic atmosphere of Porto Ercole, one of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy. We crossed the narrow streets of the old town, which reminded us of the pirate invasions; we followed the walls until we arrived in front of the entrance of the fortress La Rocca; we identified all the Spanish guardian castles that surround and protected the town; we walked along the peaceful port; we admired the breathtaking views of the blue sea and the islands of the Tuscan archipelago; we breathed in the scents of the Mediterranean flora; we stopped in front of the Governors Palace and much more…”

A wonderful evening for our Pasta Tasting dinner.
“In this Roman Ottobrata, our tasting dinner featured the following menu: Panzanella, Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe, Spaghetti alla Gricia, Rigatoni with Coda alla Vaccinara sauce and, as dessert, Torta Ricotta e Visciole. The latter has been a great success. Ricotta and visciole (sour cherry) cake is one of the most successful examples of Roman pastry making, which owes a lot to the Jewish one. A shortcrust pastry base with a shortcrust covering with a filling of ricotta and jam of sour cherries.”

“The Vatican Railway line is the shortest international railway in the world. When it was built, following the Lateran Pacts, the line was double track, but on the occasion of the Jubilee of 2000 one of the two tracks was removed and the “Jasmine Walk” was created. The Passeggiata del Gelsomino, so called because it passes over the old Valle del Gelsomino, is a pedestrian path from which it is possible to admire the dome of St. Peter’s from a different observation point.”

“Founded by the Etruscans 2500 years ago, it went through various dominations and in the Middle Ages acquired much of its extraordinary shape.
Bagnoregio is often referred to as the "dying town" or "the town that is dying" because it faces the constant threat of erosion and collapse due to the gradual erosion of the tuff rock on which it was built. This nickname underscores the town's precarious existence. Perhaps not everyone knows that Civita was the inspiration for Hayao Miyazaki for the creation of the famous animation movie Laputa, castle in the sky.”

“We finished our visit to the interior of the palace by experiencing the incredible acoustics of the Room of Angels; then we visited the gardens of the palace until we reached the Casina del Piacere, passing through chestnut woods, fountains and hedge mazes. After the visit we enjoyed a lunch based on typical local products of the highest quality, among which the “Griciarola” stood out. Water and flour Pici with homemade guanciale, grotto aged pecorino cheese, truffle and chopped hazelnuts.”

“The construction of the equestrian statue of Victor Emmanuel II was entrusted to Enrico Chiaradia in April 1889. The statue, which would later be completed by Emilio Gallori, since Chiaradia died in 1901, was cast with bronze from some cannons of the Royal Army and then mounted on the marble base on which the allegories of the 14 “noble” cities of Italy were sculpted, between 1907 and 1910. The cities represented are the capitals of the pre-unification states, for this reason they were reputed to be the “noble mothers” of Italy during the Risorgimento.
On the occasion of the visit of King Victor Emmanuel III of Savoy, the authorities decided to offer a banquet to a small group of guests among those who had participated in the project. The event was staged inside the belly of the bronze horse, which was able to accommodate more than twenty people.”

“The name of Piazza della Rotonda derives from the famous circular monument that characterizes it, the Pantheon. In the center of the square is a Renaissance fountain designed around 1575 by Giacomo Della Porta. In the 18th century the fountain was modified by Filippo Barigioni and surmounted by the so-called “obelisk macuteo”, a small authentic ancient Egyptian obelisk from the time of Ramses II discovered in the 14th century in Piazza San Macuto.”

The Jewish community was present in Rome since the second century BC, being the oldest in Europe.
