How hot is it today? 😱🥵

Just look at one of the cats of Pompeii this afternoon to understand that we are literally "melting in the sun"! Poor kitty is trying to cool down in the shade...we can totally relate! 😱🌡🔥

The apparent temperature recorded today has been indeed 37° Celsius with over 60% of humidity! What a joy! 🤣🥵💀

So if you choose to visit archaeological areas in summer don't forget to:

- do it early morning or late afternoon to avoid heat waves 😉✌️
- bring with you sun lotion, sun glasses & hats to shield you from the sun ☀️🕶🧢👒
- forget soft drinks/ slushies/ gelato...the only way to reintroduce liquids in your body is by drinking liters and liters of water 🥵💧

Follow these suggestions and you may survive 😱🤣✌️😎

⚠️⚠️⚠️ Water emergency in Capri!!! The rupture of a pipeline on the Sorrento Peninsula serving the island has deprived some areas of any water supply ⚠️⚠️⚠️

With an urgent local ordinance issued this morning, the mayor of Capri has imposed - until further notice- an ABSOLUTE BAN on disembarking on the island with the exception of residents and workers providing essential services until the end of the emergency ⚠️💧

This urgent decision was made essential to avoid a health emergency. Without water it's impossible to guarantee essential services to the thousands of people who visit the island every day during the tourist season. For this reason ordering a halt to the arrival of tourists was the only possible choice 🤔🚷❌️

In the meantime, the administration has adopted all countermeasures and activated the crisis unit and is doing everything possible to limit the inconvenience to the population and activities of the island 🙏❤️

We Naps will keep you updated on the situation! Finger crossed the situation will improve soon for the inhabitants of Capri 💪❤️

Look what happened in Pompeii today! 😱🤩

In the streets of the ancient city destroyed by the violent eruption of Vesuvius, 17 ancient Pompeians were spotted! Thanks to the collaboration with some historical re-enactment groups, the actors brought back to life the people who lived in Pompeii before the enormous tragedy destroyed the life of its inhabitants forever 😢

Stories of common lives in the shadow of Vesuvius - as described by the Pompeii - Parco Archeologico - have accompanied visitors to discover the jobs and daily activities of the inhabitants of Pompeii. We met them in the houses, in the shops where they lived, on the main streets but also in the most unknown parts of the city where traces of their passage remained ❤️

Here are few photos taken today by our staff at work in the excavations during the tours! 😉✌️

What do you think? Would it be nice to see these historical re-enactments more often to understand how the ancient Pompeians lived ⁉️

As you can see, some tourists really appreciated it and even took the opportunity to take some souvenir photos! 😎📸

Enjoying the view of Mt Vesuvius today from the Villa Comunale of Sorrento with the art installation "Te voglio bene assaje" in the foreground 🤩🤩🤩

But do you know the meaning behind these few words? 🤔🤔🤔

It's a pretty common expression in Neapolitan language that can be translated to "I love you very much" and is often used to convey deep affection to loved ones. It's fascinating to learn about the significance of our language, isn't it? 😉😉😉

Moreover is also the title of a famous Neapolitan song dating back to 1839. The song has been reinterpreted by various artists, including Roberto Murolo and Mia Martini. You can listen to their beautiful version here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=b2rPOeom8jU

But most importantly, the words "Te voglio bene assaje" can also be found in another popular song called "Caruso" by Lucio Dalla, a renowned Italian singer and songwriter (you can see him in a "street art" version right at the entrance of the Villa Comunale). Lucio Dalla wrote this song while staying in Sorrento at the Hotel Excelsior Vittoria, in the suite where Enrico Caruso once resided hence the song's title! Today in Italy it's Republic Day which commemorates the 1946 referendum in which Italians chose the form of government for the country after the Second World War and the fall of Fascism 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹

Naples today...what a picturesque view of the Fountain of Neptune, the Maschio Angioino, the Cruise terminal and a glimpse of Mt Vesuvius! 🤩🤩🤩

But did you know that this very giant fountain, adorned with the statue of the God of the sea, has had quite a journey through the city's history?

Initially built in the late 16th century by a viceroy, it has been relocated multiple times due to various reasons. From its original spot near the port to in front of the Royal Palace, then to the Santa Lucia district, and later near Via Medina. Following the Masaniello revolt, it found itself back near the port until it was eventually dismantled and stored in the Pizzofalcone caves. In the late 19th century, it graced Piazza della Borsa until its relocation in 2011 to Via Medina after a meticulous restoration!

We already lost count how many times it changed location! 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

Today, it stands proudly in Piazza Municipio, at the entrance to Palazzo San Giacomo - our town hall - facing the port of the city.

Will this be the final resting place of this moving fountain ⁉️

Let's hope so!!! 🤞😎

Visiting Pompeii or Herculaneum during a transfer from Naples to Sorrento is probably one of the most frequent requests we receive! Many clients indeed prefer this option to make the best of their time...After all Pompeii and Herculaneum are on the way to Sorrento so it's perfect! 🤩🤩🤩

It's raining again. A lot ☔️💧

We were sure spring was here and then in the twinkling of an eye it's gone! 👋🤔😵‍💫

Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about this crazy weather. We can choose to be optimistic and enjoy life/holiday nevertheless or we can be pessimistic and complain about it all the time 😔😔😔

Our favourite approach? To look at the bright side of the story...with this cold weather gelato is not melting 😎✌️🤤

Today in Italy we celebrate Labor Day! And Vincenzo and I - the co-founders of this incredible project that is Mind the Nap - cannot help but thank every single person who has been sharing this journey with us since that distant February 2020 when we decided to embark on this crazy adventure! 🤪

Our gratitude always goes to our clients for choosing us among so many providers of tours/experiences in our region 🙏❤️

Is our guide Federica wearing a wool scarf on the 26th of April⁉️ Absolutely! 😵‍💫😖

Today the weather was so cold early in the morning that we almost went back to our winter clothes! It rained too...just look at the picture of Piazza Tasso in . She took the photo only when the rain stopped but honestly it was so chill and humid 😱🥶

Good news is the weather will get better in the next few days with warmer temperatures but this April has been quite crazy! 😵‍💫

Are we going to miss this when the summer heat arrive? Probably but for now few days of rains are enough ❌️❌️❌️

Happy Liberation Day everyone!

Today 25th of April for all Italians is a very important day in our history in which we celebrate the liberation of Italy from Nazi-fascist occupation and partisan resistance to Nazi-fascism. It's also a day when the inviolable values of democracy and freedom are reaffirmed ❤️

Among the symbols of partisan resistance there is the poppy flower, fragile but also strong which blooms spontaneously in the fields or in hostile environments. With its color also recalls the red of the spilled blood during the war and the ideals in which many dead partisans believed in 🙏❤️‍🩹

We have been working today but we couldn't help but take a moment to remember and celebrate this day from "our offices" scattered around Campania and beyond.

Happy Liberation Day to everyone... may freedom never be taken for granted in our lives ❤🇮🇹

Today the weather has been crazy! It was cloudy, sunny, rainy and windy ...all at the same time! And there was also a weather alert! 😖

Can you believe it? Just look at the pictures...it seems we took them in different days but they all are from today and shot in few minutes! 😵

So this is the reason why we are making this post! Today during our tours we saw many tourists literally freezing to death because they were dressed as if it were summer! 😱😱😱

We are still in April and the weather is unfortunately unpredictable. Don't assume that because it's spring it's necessarily warm or hot because that's not the case. Just look at how people are dressed in the street 😵‍💫

So here some advice from us locals to face these uncertain temperatures 👇

1) Wear at least 3 layers (cotton t-shirt, sweatshirt/light sweater, leather or windproof jacket) + long trousers/skirts + sneakers;
2) Always bring a cotton scarf... with these sudden winds a sore throat is just around the corner
3) Small umbrella and sunglasses are a must for survival!

With this "kit" you shouldn't have any problems! As for the summer heat we have to wait a few more weeks so don't be foolish and dress accordingly! 💪😎

Did you know that...⁉️⁉️⁉️

Easter in Campania, and in particular in Naples, brings so many traditions that have remained unchanged over the centuries! 😌

From a religious point of view, the Holy Week begins with the blessing of the olive branches on Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Monday, with a daytrip out of town 🚙🏕

One of the most unique religious ritual falls on Holy Thursday when the Neapolitan people dedicate themselves to the "Seven Churches Visitation" which is a centuries-old rite also known as a visit to the "sepolcri". For this reason, many churches set up "an altar or repose" decorated with brightly colored flowers, olive trees and flowering plants where they will recite ritual prayers such as the Hail Mary and the Our Father. Nowadays the choice of the seven churches is up to the Neapolitans - as long as they recite their prayers - while in the past they used to do a pilgrimage to the most iconic or old churches of the city such as the Chiesa del Gesù or the Cathedral of the city ⛪️⛪️⛪️

Art or the opposite of Art ⁉️🤔

Walking around Naples you might come across this unusual and impressive work of contemporary art signed by the artist Michelangelo Pistoletto.

The "Venus of rags" reproduced in various sizes in many international museums, arrived in Naples for the first time in 2023, only to be destroyed by an act of vandalism and has returned again "like a phoenix rising from the ashes" on 6th March 2024.

According to the artist, one of the greatest exponents of Arte Povera, this Venus surrounded by rags should represent the contrast between the beauty of classical art and the era of consumerism in which we live. The immobile beauty vs the transience of our existence, but also presents some food for thought on the tragedies of our times such as pollution, social wars, poverty and migrants. Harmony and disharmony, beauty and ruins, purity and rubble, a series of contradictions that we also find in the beautiful but complex city in which we live!

In recent weeks we have enjoyed listening to the comments of tourists and Neapolitans who have approached this provocative work with curiosity. And the opinions were, like the Venus of Rags, controversial! 😁😖

What do you think of this giant Venus? It's a Yes or a No ⁉️🤔

Compared to other works of contemporary art exhibited in the past in Naples, we personally do not get its charm even though we acknowledge the artist's message.

Happy Father's Day! 💙😌

Or should we say Happy Zeppola of St Joseph's Day ⁉️🤔

Well one of the characteristics of our culture is to often consider food as a ritual connected to certain festivities. That's why we have the lasagna for Carnival, the minestra maritata at Christmas and the pastiera at Easter. St Joseph's Zeppola, that you see in the pic, falls precisely into that category of food linked to a particular holiday...Father's Day! 🤤

There are several stories behind the origin of this particular dessert... there are those who say that it was born from Joseph's need during his escape to Egypt to increase his meager income by selling fried donuts. Another version traces this recipe back to the festivals called Liberalia in Ancient Rome. What we know is that for their modern form we had to wait for the 18th century and the amazing cooking skills of the nuns of some Neapolitan convents 😊😊😊

Anyways beyond history, this typical pasty of March 19th - a fried or baked bignet topped with custard cream and black cherries - remains a certainty on the tables (and in the bellies) of us Neapolitans who on this festive day just can't do without it! 😋😁🤤

So when in Naples for Father's Day don't forget to get a zeppola...but first you will have to answer the most dreaded question for us locals...Fried or Baked? 😅😅😅

Another mural has appeared in Naples! And luckily for us is not another portrait of Maradona but something more powerful and meaningful 😌💙

On 8th March was inaugurated the first alley in our city to homage resilient women where it'll be possible to walk among the portraits of women who have made history and have defied their time. Women who were forerunners, avant-gardists, brilliant and become for this immortal 😊

In the alley called "Vicoletto Donnaregina" - right between via Duomo and the famous Diocesan Museum - you can admire the incredible artworks created by the street artist Trisha Palma and the graphic designer Giulia Pagano.

The project promoted by the Association "Vicolo della Cultura" in collaboration with A&MBookstore | Coffeeandmore was born from the idea to revitalise neglected alleys thanks to art and contemporary artirsts. An urban redevelopment but also a social and cultural one to change the sad history of degradation of some neighborhoods of Naples 🥲💔

Business lunch with a view! And talking about business over a nice pizza is always a great idea! 😉😉😉

Today, for a little change given the amount of pizzas we eat, we said no to the traditional margherita! We treated ourselves to a nice contemporary pizza with a nice soft and puffy crust...as for the flavour we opted for a Nerano...oh yes like the famous pasta! 😁

Ingredients are: courgette cream, mozzarella, fried courgettes and provolone del monaco cheese 😌

How tasty 🤤🤤🤤

Well goodbye diet...see you another day! 😉✌️

Happy Mardi Gras everybody! 🎉🎭 Let's talk about...Carnival! Not just the one we know today. But the unique festivity with very ancient origins that has evolved over the centuries until the present day! You should know indeed that already in the ancient times during pagan religious festivals - such as Bacchanalia and Saturnalia - our ancestors used to paint their faces during celebrations or wear masks, as a propitiatory rite or to ward off evil spirits. Subsequently, with the advent of Christianity, this belief was immediately mitigated, but the tradition of dressing up during particular festivals was been preserved 😉 But Carnival itself has begun to take on the characteristics of an independent celebration starting from the XIV century, when the nobles of the city began to organize masked balls, shows and tournaments before Lent and Easter (particularly famous where the carnival celebrations during the Bourbon period in the XVIII & XIX centuries). But while the rich people celebrated in the comfort of their houses and palaces, the desire to celebrate and the enthusiasm contaminated the ordinary people too, the so-called plebeians: wearing masks and caught up in an inexplicable frenzy they invaded the streets "armed" with musical instruments to celebrate in a mix of colors and sounds to forget any problem or concern 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 And this, if you think about it, is exactly the spirit of Carnival today in Naples: not wearing fancy dresses like the nobles but giving in to the euphoria and letting yourself be carried away by the joyful atmosphere that is in the air. Having for one day the chance to put your worries aside, hide behind a mask and pretend to be someone else, whoever you want. And celebrate, laugh, joke, with those who experience the same burdens as you. So here's a little taste of our Carnival. Perhaps less glittering and luxurious than that of other Italian cities.
