Just like in Dalí’s famous illustration “This is not a camel”… this is not Val d’Orcia.
🌟 Though the view might look quite similar, here amidst the so-called “Rolling Hills,” we are in the Crete Senesi region, in the municipality of Asciano, at Agriturismo Baccoleno.
✨This place has become one of the most iconic images of Tuscany worldwide, as much as the rural and romantic landscapes of the nearby Val d’Orcia. 🌾
Timeless tranquility: the hills of Val d’Orcia tinged with purple 🪻
🌤️ The Tuscan hills stretch out like waves of lush green, kissing the sky with their undulating grace. At the top of one of them, a solitary little tree stands proud, a silent witness to the magnificence of the surrounding landscape.
🪻 At its feet, the wild sulla flowers (Hedysarum coronarium) paint the ground with shades of purple, like strokes of pure poetry…
🍇 The vineyards of Brunello di Montalcino sprawl across rolling hills in the southern Tuscany, bathed in sunlight and caressed by gentle breezes.
Here, Sangiovese vines find their home, rooting in mineral-rich limestone soils, bestowing upon the wine a unique complexity.
Cultivated with care by generations of winemakers honoring local traditions, these vineyards yield wines renowned for their elegance, structure, and aging potential. 🍷
👉🏻 Monticchiello (Siena), with Pienza in the distance on the left. One of my fav ♥️
🌸Nestled in the picturesque Tuscan countryside, Monticchiello exudes an aura of timeless charm and rustic elegance. This medieval village, perched atop a gentle hill in the province of Siena, whispers tales of centuries past through its weathered stone walls and cobblestone streets. Steeped in history, Monticchiello boasts a rich cultural heritage, with traces of Etruscan and Roman influence mingling with its medieval origins.
🎭 But what truly sets Monticchiello apart is its unique theatrical tradition. Here, the spirit of “teatro povero” (poor theater) thrives, a movement born in the 1960s as a reaction against commercialized art. In the intimate setting of its ancient streets, locals enact their own stories, weaving together personal narratives and collective experiences in a raw and authentic form of self-expression known as “autodramma.” As dusk settles over the village, the echoes of laughter, music, and heartfelt performances resonate, creating an unforgettable tapestry of culture and community in this hidden gem of Tuscany.
Florence is an open-air museum… but with more gelato 🍨🤪
• Seriously guys, I believe we should solve the terrible problem of the lack of gelato in the rest of the world 😁
🌸 Legend has it that one day, while a group of angels was soaring above the Earth carrying the gifts of grace and beauty, one of them stumbled and fell. As they got up, they shook their hands, causing some stars ✨to fall from the sky. Where these stars touched the ground, magnificent plants with flowers resembling eagles grew, much like the ones we now know as “Aquilegia.” (Columbine)
An ancient perennial, wild and incredibly cold-resistant, year after year it paints gardens and countryside pots with hues of blue, pink, purple, and yellow.
Waking up to a February morning in Pienza is pure magic! 😍 Without the usual crowds, basking in the romantic light that kisses the gentle hills of Val d’Orcia. It’s the perfect moment to embrace slow living and soak in the beauty of the moment. 🌄

🏰 Castelmuzio is a tiny, charming hamlet in the municipality of Trequanda (Siena), dominating the Val d'Orcia from the border. 👉 Dating back to the time of the Etruscans, in the 9th century it appears in the documents of the Badia Amiatina di San Salvatore, under the name of Casale Mustia. In the Archives of the State of Siena, in XI century, the name is Castel Mozzo. Already property of the powerful family Cacciaconti della Scialenga, Castelmuzio passed to the Republic of Siena and in 1354 becoming property of the Hospice of Santa Maria della Scala. For some time, it was ruled by the Salimbeni, then it was acquired by the Piccolomini who owned it until it was reconquered by Siena. With the defeat of the Republic of Siena, Castelmuzio was handed over by the Medici to the Lorena Grand Dukes. During the 15th century the Confraternita della Santissima Trinità opened a hostel for pilgrims that followed the route called the "Via Francigena", leading from France to Rome and the Holy Land. 👉 In 2017 a group of smart women created "Castelmuzio Borgo Salotto" (literally: Living-Room borgo), an association of local entrepreneurs and residents with the common idea of treating the entire village as if it were their own home: there's an open air living room, right on the beautiful belvedere, with chairs, sofas and tables, free wifi and a small library, where you can spend some time relaxing and reading a book, and even a "jewel public toilet" with mosaic walls, fine ceramics, and artisanal doors and windows.
