A causa dei problemi idrici (alla rete della trans waterline) tutti gli hotel all'interno del grand canyon village saranno chiusi da oggi al 4 settembre. Tutte le prenotazioni in essere sono cancellate.
Gli hotel di Tusayan sono regolarmente aperti e se trovate posto è possibile pernottare qui.
Il parco è comunque accessibile e regolarmente visitabile in giornata (daily visit)

Alcuni giornaletti italiani addirittura hanno asserito che fosse il famoso arco del parco di Arches!
Siamo invece nel Glen Canyon Natioanl recreation area (aka Lake Powell) l’arco collassato è noto anche come Toilet Bowl

PRESS RELEASE: A man died at a trailhead in Death Valley National Park on Tuesday afternoon as temperatures soared to 121°F.
The 71-year-old man from the Los Angeles area collapsed outside the restroom at Golden Canyon. National Park Service officials believe he had likely just been hiking the popular trail. He was wearing a sun hat and hiking clothes, and carried a backpack. His car was in the parking lot.
Other park visitors noticed the man and were able to use their cell phone to call 911 for assistance at 3:40 pm. National Park Service and Inyo County Sheriff’s Office responded. Mercy Air’s helicopter was not able to respond due to the high temperature. Park rangers arrived at 3:47. They did CPR and used an automated external defibrillator (AED) but were not able to save the man.
The Inyo County Coroner’s Office has not yet determined the man’s cause of death. However, park rangers suspect heat was a factor. The official temperature at nearby Furnace Creek was 121°F around the time of his death. Actual temperatures inside Golden Canyon were likely much higher, due to canyon walls radiating the sun’s heat.
This is possibly the second heat-related fatality in Death Valley this summer. A 65-year-old man died on July 3.

REOPENING UPDATE
The Giant Forest Area in Sequoia National Park Reopens Tomorrow!
Access only from Kings Canyon National Park via Hwy 180
This area closed in early March in advance of what would become a catastrophic series of storms, 84 days ago. Those storms left behind severe road and infrastructure damage that continues to impact public access.
Access to the Giant Forest and Lodgepole areas will only be possible from Kings Canyon National Park, via the Big Stump entrance station on Highway 180. It is not possible to reach this area or giant sequoias from the Sequoia National Park entrance station on Highway 198 in Three Rivers. The section of the Generals Highway between the foothills area and the Giant Forest in Sequoia National Park remains closed and under active construction. This section of highway is estimated to reopen July 1.
What to expect in the Giant Forest/Lodgepole Area
The free park shuttle service will be in operation from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. This enables visitors to find parking and then explore the most popular sites via shuttle. Consider parking at Lodgepole Campground in the large lot just beyond the campground kiosk, then riding the shuttle to features in the Giant Forest area.
The Moro Rock/Crescent Meadow Road, leading to popular sites like Moro Rock and Tunnel Log, is closed to public vehicles on weekends and holidays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can access these areas by shuttle or foot. This road is open to public vehicles Monday through Friday when the area is typically less congested.
No camping will be available in this area until later in June. Reservations for Lodgepole Campground and other park campgrounds are required and can be made on Recreation.gov.
This year more than ever, we urge visitors to plan their trips in advance and become familiar with what areas are open. Many areas and services in the parks that would typically be open this time of year may remain closed through this summer season. Rain this weekend was a historic event, with nearly a year’s worth of rain falling in three hours. The rain caused widespread damage and closure of all park roads.
"The heavy rain that caused the devastating flooding at Death Valley was an extremely rare, 1000-year event, says Daniel Berc, meteorologist with the National Weather Service Las Vegas.
⚠️ Many miles of roadway are known to have moderate to severe asphalt damage with hundreds of miles of roadways impacted by debris. Road conditions are still being assessed, as damage makes access to some areas impossible by vehicle.
Yesterday’s aerial surveys by a Naval Weapons Station China Lake helicopter crew were able to do a thorough search and located several vehicles in remote areas of the park. Rangers were able to contact these visitors and ensure that everyone was ok.
California Department of Transportation expects to reopen portions of Highway 190 by Tuesday, allowing for travel between Pahrump, NV and the park’s residential and administrative area at Cow Creek. This will include access to the park’s visitor center at Furnace Creek, as well as the private hotels at Furnace Creek.
⚠️ Park roads are expected to remain closed for days to months depending on the severity of damage.
To date, there are no reported injuries from visitors or park residents, and people who were previously sheltering in place have been able to carefully travel out through the damaged roadways.
⚠️ No park roads are currently open to recreational travel due to ongoing safety concerns and active road work.
“Death Valley is an incredible place of extremes,” said park superintendent Mike Reynolds. “It is the hottest place in the world, and the driest place in North America. This week’s 1,000 year flood is another example of this extreme environment. With climate change models predicting more frequent and more intense storms, this is a place where you can see climate change in action!”

Flash Flood.. oggi spieghiamo di cosa si tratta. Sono le temutissime inondazioni che colpiscono quasi sempre in questo periodo il south west arido durante i violenti e pesanti temporali. Il terreno ovviamente non è in grado di assorbire la potenza di queste bombe d'acqua e gli effetti sono devastanti, allagamenti, frane, strade completamente cancellate. I luoghi più temuti dove si verificano (e ci sono i maggiori danni) i flood sono la Death Valley, l'Antelope Canyon e la zona dei Narrows di Zion. Notizia di questi giorni, alcuni tratti della 190 all'interno della Death Valley sono chiusi al traffico in quanto la strada è stata spazzata via.
Prestate molta attenzione alle previsioni meteo, non percorrete queste zone se ci sono temporali, sono talmente fulminei questi eventi che vi coglieranno di sorpresa. Succedono sempre e tutti gli anni ed i mesi di luglio e agosto sono i peggiori.
