The majestic statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II, that stands on the "Altare della Patria", was made by 50 tons of pure bronze, obtained by the fusion of the Kingdom of Italy army's cannons.

The horse is 12 meters long: it had to be transported in pieces and reassembled on site.

With the work's conclusion a "party" was held inside the horse's belly, able to host more than 20 people for the occasion; vitange pics testify this crazy story.

Even the King statue is colossal, just think that its mustache is 2 meters long!

Another gem provided by the majestic Navona Square: the Fountain of the Moor, in Italian "la Fontana del Moro". Designed originally by Giacomo della Porta in 1575, it was embellished by the master Bernini roughtly 80 years later, putting the central statue that provides the fountain's name.

Located at the south end of Navona Square, the fountain represents a Moor or African standing on a shell, fighting with a dolphin and surronded by four newts, all this embedded in a pink marble basin.

In one of the busiest crosses of the old town, precisely in the "Piazza della Bocca della Verità" , we can find the dazzling "Fontana dei Tritoni", surrounded by notable attractions such as the Temple of Hercules, the Basilica of Santa Maria in Cosmedin and the Arco di Giano.

The fountain, representing two newts that support a shell, was completed in 1715 by the architect Bizzacchieri, inspired by Bernini's wonderful Triton Fountain.

There are few cities, besides Rome, that have a so long-standing and intense linkage with Egypt. The Roman culture as a whole shows numerous signs of the Egyptian influence; an incredible culture, the latter, wichi sprawled across Europe since the antiquity until the middle age, and again from the Renaissance until the XVIII century.

Egyptian culture fascinated countless civilizations throughout the history, and the Roman Empire was not an exception. Two reigns so different among them, but when we combine them well-known names comes to mind, like Julius Caesar, Marco Antonio and one of the most famous woman ever existed, Cleopatra.

A so intense relationship that some Romans risk a comparison between the Tiber and the Nile, for the simple fact that their civilizations blossomed around them.

However, the signs of their connections are embedded in the urban fabric of Rome, and are clearly visible for travelers: it’s common that while you walk through the neighborhoods you meet an obelisk or a pyramid, and even mummies.

As well, a section of the Vatican Museums, the Gregorian, hosts one of the biggest collection of Egyptian manufacts.

Pinocchio, the well-known wooden puppet, enjoys of international fame since more than a century. Written as a children’s novel in 1883 by the italian writer Carlo Collodi, just 28 years later it was already a movie. An unprecedented success, even among adults, and motive of national pride for Italians.

Nowadays, in the last movie’s version, the Pinocchio’s father, “Mastro Geppetto”, is interpreted by the italian actor Roberto Benigni, who directed also a previous adaptation (2002) where he was Pinocchio himself; a movie, the latter, regarded as the most expensive of the Italian cinema (45M €).

Benigni, for his part, affirms that his partecipation is simply cause of happiness and he jokes by stating the he’d play even the role of the Blue Fairy. The 2019’s movie has been a success, again, able to win 5 David di Donatello Awards: Best Sets and Decorations, Best Costumes, Best Makeup, Best Hair Design and Best Visual Effects.

For your next trip in Rome we suggest our partner “Bartolucci”, a wooden craft shop that since 500 years produces hundreds of adorable toys, among them, of course, Pinocchio! A great souvenir’s idea.

Today we disclose another hidden gem in Rome: the Temple of Hercules Victor.

It's situated at the cross between the river Tiber, the Aventine hill, and the Circus Maximus, in the area of the Fourm Boarium, way close to the Mouth of Truth.

It's an unconventional circular temple, made with white marble, dedicated to Hercules.

You can admire it meanwhile you stroll alongside the Tiber.

Today, June 2nd, we celebrate the 74th anniversary of the Italian Republic!

The same day, in 1946, just after the catastrophic end of the Fascist era, the Italian people could choose via referenda the form of government: Monarchy or Republic?

Although the many difficulties, the Republic party won. This date marked the end of the Kingdom of Italy, instaured in 1861, and the begin of a parliamentary republic.

To pay tribute to the historical event, the "Frecce Tricolore" aircrafts paint as tradition the Roman sky with the flag's colours: green, white and red. Amazing!

Massive and scenic, "Piazza del Popolo" is one of the largest squares in Rome. It's located not far from the Tiber, just down the Pincio Park and the end of three important shopping streets: Via del Corso, Via del Babuino and Via di Ripetta. This makes it a vibrant square, every day of the year.

In the 16th century the architect Domenico Fontana, commissioned by Pope Paolo Sisto V, had to think a plan to connect the relevant spots and monuments of the city. So he did: he had the brilliant idea to build and spread elegant obelisks (like that of Piazza del Popolo) across Rome, in order to orient better, embellish and make the new roads more prestigious.

Until a few centuries ago the square was the scene of death penalty executions; the last one occurred in 1826 when a man supposedly guilty of having killed and robbed a priest was beheaded.

Nowadays the square is a marvellous pedestrian area, place of public events, shows and concerts.

The majestic "Mouth of Truth" dates back to the first century AD, and it's believed to have the power to formulate oracles.

The legendary sculpture measures 1.75 cm in diameter, a bearded face with pierced eyes, nose and mouth. It was dedicated to Neptune, even though others sustain that it was simply a manhole.

Legend has it that to find out if someone is telling the truth it's required to put the hand inside its mouth, and if you're lying the mask would devour it. Are you so brave to put your hand inside there?

Today we talk about aqueducts. Using simply volcanic cement, bricks and stones, the Romans unveiled to the world how to distribute, through an immense territory, the most precious good: water.

The most ancient known aqueducts were placed on a surface with a slight inclination in order to favor the water drain. Every ancient civilization developed its own water system (canals, aqueducts, etc.), but nothing compared with those built by the Romans.

Their water supply system involved 11 aqueducts: the first one, erected in 312 BC, is called Aqua Appia; the largest one, the famous Aqua Marcia, reaches an astonishing extension of 90 Km.

If you link the Italian cars just with the luxury brands such as Ferrari, Lamborghini or Maserati you are way off the mark. Actually Italians use much more small vehicles rather than those exclusive and bulky cars; not only because of the high costs that super cars require to their owners, but also because in several cities, including Rome, the streets are tight and it's hard to find a parking' spot.

These tiny motors, like the anciet 500 in the pic, embellish and bring joy to the urban areas, thanks to the variety of types and their numerous colors, from the primaries to the pastel ones. We can't deny the authenticity and charm of these cars that look coming out from a cartoon.

The fresco is a complex and ancient painting technique that requires exact accuracy and finesse. It's made with pigments (usually of mineral origin) diluted in water and fastened on the fresh plaster; once the carbonation pocess is finished the color will be perfectly fuse with the plaster, acquiring a particular resistance to water and the passage of time.

Well, just know that the Vatican Museums, extending over 7 kilometers, have almost 5 km of painted roof, of which 2,8 wiht the fresco's technique, talk about 800 meters of Michelangelo's work.

The Pantheon is one of the most scheming historical monument that we can visit in Rome nowadays.

Its dome is the most notable part. With its 44 meters of diameter it's the largest dome in unreinforced concrete ever built: it's another perpetual proof of the Roman engineering ability and architectural cleverness, being still virtually intact. On the top we can admire a 9 meters hole called "Oculus" which allows natural sunlight to light up the whole structure.

It's absolutely a starling monument that cannot miss from your bucket list.

The fountain, work of unquestionable beauty of the master Bernini, requested by Pope Innocent X, is located in the center of Navona square.

At the base, four monumental statues exalt its uniqueness, four titans that allegorically represent the four main rivers of the Earth, one for each of the continents known at the time through which vatican authority had spread.

The Rio della Plata for the Americas, the Nile for Africa, the Ganges for Asia, and the Danube for Europe.

Legend has it that the current name "Castel Sant' Angelo" has been originated in the 590 d.C. when Rome had to face a plague epidemic that was wiping out its population.

During a procession, called by Pope Gregorio Magno to invoke the divine aid, the Arcangel Michael appeared on the top of the castle with a bloody sword announcing the end of the plague which finished miracously.

Today the Michael's statue stay on the castle's roof, watching over Roman people and tourists alike.

Did you think that's the Bramante Staircase? Don't worry it's a common mistake. The Bramante Staircase is placed in another area of the museums, the one in the picture is another staircase, designed by Giuseppe Momo in 1932; and yes is one of the most photographed in the world, and certainly one of the most beautiful.

The stairs are two separate helix, one leading up and one leading down, which twist together in a unique double helix.

Who goes up doesn't meet who goes down. Isn't’it curious?

Civic center of the ancient Rome: melting pot of politics, business and entertainment. The Roman Forum was obviously the most important forum of the Empire.

It's situated between the Palitine Hill, the Capitoline and the Qurinal. This area, an extense swamp originally, became the city center since the VII century AC, thanks to drainage's works and the construction of a canal.

Today we just see the ruins of the Empire's heart. Nevertheless, they continue to amaze the travelers that after two thousand years keep visiting them 🏛️

The monument is one of the most blatant building in the city. Its impressive size and the sunlight reflected in the white murble make it a favorite target of millions' cameras every year.
