In 1949, Carlo Scarpa was tasked with redesigning the garden and ground floor of the Fondazione Querini Stampalia in Venice, but it was only ten years later that the actual project saw light; this was a lively and exciting period for the architect, who was in charge of assembling museums’ interiors in the city and of completing of various projects for the Venice Biennale.
The job was carried out with the help of Giuseppe Mazzariol, director of the Fondazione. The entrance hall and ground floor were later modified and completed thanks to the intervention of Valeriano Pastor and the ticinese architect Mario Botta.
The palace was left by count Giovanni Querini Stampalia in 1868 as a foundation, with the expressed intent of it becoming a library and place of study; Carlo Scarpa was able to assimilate in the entrance and garden the harmony of Venetian tradition with the modernity of the materials utilised: cement, Istrian stone, mosaic and metal.
Querini Stampalia is a remarkable house-museum of an ancient noble family and it is also a brilliant display of contemporary architecture, which you can explore with a .

Ever since the Discalced Carmelites settled in the place they still inhabit in Venice, they enjoyed a garden that remains unique and precious to this day.

It is unique due to the large quantity of medical herbs grown there and from the point of view of design, which is symbolic, allegorical and “mystical”.

James Bond came to Venice three times. In the 1963 From Russia with Love, Sean Connery thwarts a killer in a hotel and in the last scene he glides beneath the Bridge of Sighs in a gondola, not unaccompanied of course.
In Moonraker, Operation Space from 1979, Roger Moore, also seen on a gondola, suffers an unfortunate attack by a fake dead body in a coffin. The gondola is of course engined and after speeding through the canals he crosses St. Mark’s square to the beat of the music. There are then the famous scenes fighting the samurai in the glass shop and inside the Clock Tower.
The last 007 to come to Venice was Daniel Craig in his first Bond film, Casino Royale of 2006.
In the final scene in Venice, Bond runs to the rescue of the bondgirl (Vesper) in a crumbling palace on the Grand Canal. The breathtaking scenes were actually shot at Pinewood Studios in England. If you’re curious about more anecdotes, ask a .

James Bond è arrivato ben 3 volte in laguna.
On this day Venice celebrates one of city’s most important festivities: the Madonna della Salute.
The beautiful Salute church was built in remembrance of the terrible plague that cursed the city in 1630-31, only a few decades after the previous atrocious bout of pestilence from which rose the Redentore church on the Giudecca.
And just like for the Redentore, so too on the day of the Salute a temporary bridge connects the two sides of the Grand Canal, allowing Venetians to reach the temple dedicated to the Virgin Mary, carrying a candle as a token of both thanksgiving for past health and that it may continue into the next year!
Naturally, as all festivities go, there is no shortage of typical food dishes.

St Martin's day is one of the most beloved Venetian traditions.
On November 11th, Venetian children go around the streets banging on pots and pans demanding sweets - a bit like Halloween.
Cake shops have fabulous window displays of San Martino biscuits which are shaped in the form of the dashing, knightly saint on his horse, with sword in hand. These indulgent biscuits are covered in icing and studded with chocolates and candies.
