Today, Gottifredi Maffioli celebrates the 70th anniversary of the historic K2 conquest.

The company made history by supplying the first nylon ropes to Ardito Desio's expedition. Seventy years ago, mountaineers Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli reached the K2 summit using these innovative ropes, revolutionizing mountaineering by replacing traditional h**p ropes.

Pierangelo Maffioli, President of Gottifredi Maffioli, highlights: "The novelty was that the ropes were made of nylon, a true discovery. The climb's success led us to adopt K2 as our symbol, which still serves as our business card today."

In the Azores, after the end of whale hunting in 1984, the same traditional boats used for that activity have been ingeniously repurposed into sleek racing and rowing vessels.

Every year in there are several competitions, and the population prefers these boats instead of the most modern sailing alternatives.

Such a passion is shared also be young generations, however the original dimensions of the boats are quite large, which makes it difficult for children to initiate this activity early, so there was a huge need for lighter, smaller and more agile boats.

The was the right venue for this Azores team to build and launch a wooden boat with such characteristics, meant for the younger sailors.

contributed to this project by rigging their boat and by donating sailing lines for an auction to raise funds for this initiative, hoping to grow the number of young Azorean sailing enthusiasts.

We are proud to support a sport and at the same time nurture a tradition, and we are committed to empowering the next generations of sailors and riggers.
