After the start of the Jubilee, we visited the newly renovated Piazza Pia, which symbolically connects two iconic landmarks of Rome: Castel Sant’Angelo and St. Peter's Basilica. The square has a rich historical tradition: originally a simple medieval traffic hub, it was developed to include a portico providing shelter for pilgrims heading to St. Peter's Basilica. 👇🏼

⁉️ Did you know...? 🤔 During the excavation works, various archaeological artifacts were discovered, including a fullonica, an ancient Roman laundry dating back to the 2nd century AD. These artifacts will be displayed in the gardens of Castel Sant’Angelo.

The Jubilee began on December 24 with these words. Pope Francis, as the first "Pilgrim of Hope," solemnly crossed the threshold of the Gate to enter St. Peter’s Basilica. On December 26, he opened the Holy Door at Rebibbia, the first ever in a prison. The last Holy Door to be opened will be that of St. Paul Outside the Walls on January 5, 2025.

✨ St. John Lateran’s Basilica

Not just Rome, Florence, Venice, and Milan… Italy is full of hidden and well-known wonders! Today we’re taking you to discover Sperlonga, the “Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea.” 🏖️✨

This charming village, with around 4,000 inhabitants, is situated halfway between the Gulf of Circeo and the Gulf of Gaeta. Sperlonga, which is part of the “Most Beautiful Villages in Italy” circuit, has been inhabited since the Upper Paleolithic era. The ancient Romans were the first to build villas here to enjoy the mild climate and stunning views.

Today, Sperlonga welcomes numerous tourists from all over the world, not just in the summer. If you head towards Gaeta, don’t miss the chance to visit the archaeological remains of Emperor Tiberius's villa, who ruled from 14 to 37 A.D. This historical site includes the ancient fish ponds and the large grotto where the famous sculptural groups depicting the adventures of Ulysses were found. 🏛️🌊
