A great place to sit and watch the world go by! The widest staircase in Europe built 1723-1725 with 135 steps in a mix of curves, straight flights and terraces connects the lower Piazza di Spagna to the upper Piazza Trinità dei Monti. The "Fontana della Barcaccia", literally the "Fountain of the Old or Ugly Boat" by Pietro Bernini (of the famous Baroque artist family), depicts a sinking ship which according to legend was carried to this exact spot during a massive flood of the Tiber river in the 16th century. As you climb the steps you'll also come across the house where English poet John Keats lived and died in 1821 at the age of 25. Join Luccalimo on our travels around incredible Italy!

Today we stop to honour, remember and be thankful at the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial. 4,392 marble headstones and Tablets of the Missing with 1,409 inscribed names. Most died following the capture of Rome in June 1944 and in heavy fighting in the Apennine mountains shortly before the war ended in Italy on 2 May 1945.

Day 13 (second round) of 14 day virtual trip
The Dolomiti.
Dolomiti is a famous mountain range in the north part of Italy above Venice, right on the border with Austria. The whole range is a UNESCO heritage site that includes many valleys and many famous destinations in the winter and in the summer.
Winter mainly for skiing with endless kilometres of ski slopes and very well organised for any skiing level.
But is in the summer when you can have even more fun! With all the walking, climbing, biking, canoeing, etc etc, this area can give you an amazing variety of things to do.
Dedicated entirely on tourism this part of Italy will take your hart, people are friendly and extremely organised.
The beauty of the colours, the depth of the sky, the quality of the air, the traditions of the costumes, the food, will make you wanting to come back year after year. No matter when but once in a life time you must see with your eyes, and after you have done that you will be hooked for life!

Day 12 (second round) of 14 day virtual trip
The unrepeatable Venice or Venezia as we call it.
Venice is a city unique in the world and of course had to be in our trip around Italy.
A conglomeration of small island connected by little narrow pedestrian ways called “Calle” and linked by hundreds of small little bridges 417 to be exact, made by stone, metal and wood.
All of that amazing traffic is carefully conducted by hundreds on Gondolas and private boats all trying to get by is this incredible panorama.
Venice is a must see, a city to put on your bucket list, as there is nothing like this on the planet.
Many things to see. From the amazing churches, San Marco is a must, to the incredible buildings, all of them trying to fight time and gravity. The most incredible time is during carnival where thousands of people meet dressing up with the old costumes and paper mache masks dating back to the 17th century.
Prices are expensive, but please remember you are buying a piece of history, so don’t complain if your Coca-Cola is 15 Dollars 😂😂

Day 11 (second round) of 14 day virtual trip
The beautiful Trieste
deep in the north east of Italy in a small Region, Trieste occupies a small part of land right on the border with Slovenia. With the biggest port in term of traffic of Italy and once upon a time the biggest port of the Austrian empire, Trieste offers lots of interesting things to see.
Why don’t you start the day with a coffe break, lots of important coffee producers and a stop in the Caffè degli Specchi is a must. Than take a walk along the big canal till you reach Piazza Unità d’Italia the main square of the city. The square and all the buildings got recently re-modernised to the recent look but still visible the impressive stile of the Austro-Hungarian empire.
Trieste is also a small paradise for literature, and joy for all people interested in old book shops, as the famous James Joyce used to say: my soul is in Trieste

Day 10 (second round) of 14 day virtual trip
The beautiful Verona
Verona goes back long time. Roman ruins are very visible and still used today.
The famous Arena hosts concerts and events all summer, including some of the most famous operas that you can guess by the enormous stage settings that are ready to be staged in the near square (piazza Bra).
The city is small and after a quick walk through the centre you will arrive to the beautiful Piazza Erbe (the old market square) and after that you will arrive at Giulietta’s balcony, from Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, today one of the attractions of the city. Make sure you bring a big marker pen to leave a message to your loved one as the entrance is completely covered and impossible to find a gap.
Verona is a beauty and one of my favorite in the north of Italy. Make sure to plan a stop here in your next trip to Italy.

Day 9 (second round) of 14 day virtual trip of Italy.
Sirmione and Lake Garda.
Sirmione really is a magical corner.
Since the moment you arrive you realise the magic of this town. Access through an old medioeval castle, leaving your car parked outside, will lead you to many narrow little roads full of shops restaurants and coffee shops. Keep walking till you will teach the thermal area and the old roman villa of Valerio Catullus
All the way round the lake you will find small interesting little towns that you can not miss, Garda, Riva del Garda, Saló, Limone and many others...
Also very famous around the lake are all the theme parks that will make every family happy. Make sure you bring your kids here, you won’t regret it!!

Day 8 (second round) of 14 day virtual trip of Italy.
Milano
This main city of Italy is the economical capital of our country.
Very famous for the fashion and modern furniture shows and of course for the high end boutiques.
The core of the city is the magnificent Duomo that is linked to the famous theatre la Scala by the commercial Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
Many things to see still, like the Sforza castle, the last supper by Leonardo Da Vinci, the Pinacoteca di Brera, Museo del Novecento, all the water canals that were used to link the city to lake Como and lake Maggiore that are bustling with restaurants and coffee shops.
Lots to do and lots to see in the busy Milan.
And if you have time stay the week end, go to see a soccer match by the two rivals Inter vs Milan, and you won’t regret it!

01/04/2020

Day 7 (second round) of 14 day virtual trip of Italy.
Lake Como
This paradise on earth is one of the hot spots in Italy. The narrow deep blue lake completely surrounded by steep mountains will give you breathtaking panoramas no matter which side of the lake you are.
Roads are narrow and you will find that travelling by boat is preferred. Also every single stunning villa has a water front view, so travelling by boat will give you the possibility in spying into everyone’s millionaire garden. Many restaurants to pick from many coffee shops and of course hi end shopping. Lake Como is the place to see once in a life time.
See you soon

31/03/2020

Day 6 (second round) of 14 day virtual trip of Italy.
Barolo and Barbaresco
This hilly area know for wines is paradise for the Nebbiolo grapes lovers.
Most of the famous wines in Italy come from here. This region, Piedmont, is also know for the amazing food and of course truffles. This is the part of Italy where the best also comes from.
Food and wine and beautiful panoramas, and the recipe for success is served.

Day 5 (second round) of 14 day virtual trip of Italy.
The unmissable 5Terre.
Literally translates as 5 lands, referring to the 5 villages hanging on the cliff in the Ligurian coast. Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso.
The beauty is in the panorama, in the walks that you can take between villages, in the colours of the buildings, in the little restaurants, caffè, and gelato shops can you can find in between.
Villages are small, lots of steps, lots to walk, lots to shop, for sure a busy day but very rewarding in terms of beauty. Take a boat ride or just sit and enjoy a glass of the local white Vermentino wine.
Many ways to enjoy this part of Italy but please leave your hi heels at home today!
