Healing Attractions from Jordan
Medical Tourism Jordan

DEAD SEA:The Dead Sea Medical Center is located at the basement of the world 408 m below Sea level, the lowest point on earth, where the Dead Sea is wide and deep, about one hour drive from the international Airport Amman. The minerals found in the Dead Sea provide your body and skin with extensive benefits, such as:
Helping to balance and maintain proper water and moisture levels.
Helping to promote the healing of skin tissue.
Helping to prevent and cure allergies and gives the skin surfaces an anti-allergic protection.
Helping to protect against airborne pollutants.
Helping to counteract internal toxins.
Aiding relaxation and promoting a soothing effect.
The Healing Power of the Dead Sea

The positive combination of the minerals and salts from the Dead Sea has healing properties for different diseases. Many skin allergies may be helped by using Dead Sea minerals. Among the medical problems found to be alleviated by these minerals are psoriasis, eczema, and purulent rashes. In addition to alleviation of such allergies, such affected skin often also shows improvement in outer appearance and elasticity after treatment with Dead Sea minerals.Better blood circulation, metabolism and a more relaxed nervous system are all supported by Dead Sea minerals. Mud from the Dead Sea contains minerals that heal wounds, wake up hair roots and eradicate dermatitis and dandruff. The mud has even been credited with eliminating headaches and migraines. Amazingly, these minerals have healing and comforting values for a host of medical conditions, including arthritis, bone and cartilage inflammation, neuritis, rheumatism, stress, fatigue and sleeplessness.

Hammamat Ma'in (Ma'in Hot Springs):Ma'in Hot Springs is a hot freshwater mineral spring and waterfall that lies 264 metres (866 ft) below sea level. The springs, located on the edge of Wadi Mujib, feed the Dead Sea. The water contains large amounts of hydrogen sulfide.Ma'in Hot Springs are the most famous hot springs and hyper-thermal waterfall in Jordan at Hammamat Ma’in and admire the surrounding beauty of this desert oasis near the Dead Sea.
The site is linked to the Biblical Herod the Great who is said to have bathed in its medicinal waters. These thermal falls originate from winter rainfalls in the highland plains of Jordan and eventually feed the 109 hot and cold springs in the valley. This water is naturally heated to temperatures up to 45 degrees Celsius by underground lava fissures as it makes its way through the valley before emptying into Zarqa.
Medical care:So, if you are looking for medical care abroad, Jordan is one of the places to consider seriously. Even if you are just planning a vacation, you may go to Jordan for pleasure and save some money. There couldn't be a better place than Jordan to recuperate and unwind.

The site of John the Baptist's settlement at Bethany Beyond the Jordan, where Jesus was baptized, has long been known from the Bible (John 1:28 and 10:40) and from the Byzantine and medieval texts.

The site has now been identified on the east bank of the Jordan River, in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and is being systematically surveyed, excavated, restored, and prepared to receive pilgrims and visitors. Bethany Beyond the Jordan is located half an hour by car from the Jordanian capital Amman.

The Bethany area sites formed part of the early Christian pilgrimage route between Jerusalem, the Jordan River, and Mount Nebo.

The area is also associated with the biblical account of how the Prophet Elijah (Mar Elias in Arabic) ascended to heaven in a whirlwind on a chariot of fire.

For more information on Bethany Beyond the Jordan, please click here to visit the "Baptism Site Commission" website.

The overwhelming biblical, archaeological, and historical evidence has led many religious leaders throughout the world to recognize this site as the authentic site of Jesus' baptism. Read letters of authentication »

Married to a bedouin

When New Zealander Marguerite van Geldermalsen came to Petra on holiday in 1978, she fell in love with a local souvenir-seller – and then stayed with him to get married, settle down and raise a family. In 2006 she published Married To A Bedouin (www.marriedtoabedouin.com), a wonderfully evocative account of their life together; we give more details in “Books”. Here, Marguerite reflects on the changes she has witnessed.

“I started writing Married To A Bedouin when I realised how much our way of life had changed.

When Mohammad and I were married in Petra in 1978, about seventy families lived in the ancient site; some in tents of woven goat-hair and others, like us, in 2000-year-old caves. They herded goats, planted winter crops and sold trinkets and old coins to the tourists. I learned to live like them – carting water from the spring, baking bread on an open fire and using kerosene for our lamps.

In 1985 we were moved to the overlooking hillside of Umm Sayhoon, partly to protect the archeological site but also to improve our quality of life with running water and electricity. Our children attended the village school and we became commuters – going into Petra to tend our souvenir and coffee shops, then riding home on camels and donkeys to turn on our televisions, put laundry into our washing machines and, eventually, hook up to the internet.

Mohammad and I had been married 24 years when he died. Soon after, I left Jordan. I felt my reason for living there had gone.

Now I understand that I left to write my story; I needed the distance to see clearly. Although Mohammad is no longer in Petra, through him I have become woven into the fabric of the place. In 2007 I returned – and settled straight back in.”

Today Marguerite – known as Umm Raami – still lives and works in Petra. You might see her jewellery stall by the path as you walk down from the theatre. It offers a perfect opportunity (among many) to inject a little cash into the local economy

'"Where you staying?" the Bedouin asked. "Why you not stay with me tonight - in my cave?"' Thus begins Marguerite van Geldermalsen's story of how a New Zealand-born nurse came to be married to Mohammad Abdallah Othman, a Bedouin souvenir-seller from the ancient city of Petra in Jordan. It was 1978 a…

The Dead Sea Scrolls, in the narrow sense of Qumran Caves Scrolls, are a collection of some 981 different texts discovered between 1946 and 1956 in eleven caves in the immediate vicinity of the ancient settlement at Khirbet Qumran in the West Bank. The caves are located about 2 kilometres inland from the northwest shore of the Dead Sea, from which they derive their name.

The consensus is that the Qumran Caves Scrolls date from the last three centuries BCE and the first century CE. Bronze coins found at the same sites form a series beginning with John Hyrcanus (135–104 BCE) and continuing until the First Jewish–Roman War (66–73 CE), supporting the radiocarbon and paleographic dating of the scrolls. Manuscripts from additional Judean desert sites go back as far as the eighth century BCE to as late as the 11th century CE.

29/01/2016

The dromedary (/ˈdrɒmədɛri/ or /-ədri/), also called the Arabian camel (Camelus dromedarius), is a large, even-toed ungulate with one hump on its back. Greek philosopher Aristotle (4th century BCE) was the first to describe the species, and the animal was given its current binomial name by Carl Linnaeus, a Swedish zoologist. The dromedary is the largest camel after the Bactrian camel. Adult male dromedaries stand 1.8–2 m (5.9–6.6 ft) at the shoulder, while females are 1.7–1.9 m (5.6–6.2 ft) tall. The weight typically ranges from 400–600 kg (880–1,320 lb) in males and 300–540 kg (660–1,190 lb) in females. The distinctive features of this camel are its long curved neck, narrow chest and only one hump (compared to the two on the Bactrian camel), thick double-layered eyelashes and bushy eyebrows. The coat is generally a shade of brown, but can range from black to nearly white. The hump, which can be 20 cm (7.9 in) tall or more, is made up of fat bound together by fibrous tissue.

Their diet includes foliage and desert vegetation, like thorny plants which their extremely tough mouths allow them to eat. These camels are active in the day, and rest together in groups. Led by a dominant male, each herd consists of about 20 individuals. Some males form bachelor groups. Dromedaries show no signs of territoriality, as herds often merge during calamities. Predators in the wild include wolves and lions; and tigers in the past. Dromedaries use a wide set of vocalizations to communicate with each other. They have various adaptations to help them exist in their desert habitat. Dromedaries have bushy eyebrows and two rows of long eyelashes to protect their eyes, and can close their nostrils to face sandstorms. Their ears are also lined with protective hair. When water-deprived, they can fluctuate their body temperature by 6 °C, changing from a morning minimum of 34° to a maximum of 40° or so in the afternoon. This reduces heat flow from the environment to the body and thereby water loss through perspiration is minimised. They have specialized kidneys, which make them able to tolerate water loss of more than 30% of their body mass; a loss of 15% would prove fatal in most other animals. Mating usually occurs in winter, often overlapping the rainy season. One calf is born after the gestational period of 15 months, and is nurtured for about two years.
