The festivity is deeply connected with the end of the terrible plague of the 1575-1577 that killed one third of the population. San francesco del Deserto is a small island identified by its clump of cypresses in the northern part of the Venice lagoon. ⛵️ It is said to have been a retreat of St Francis who stopped off coming back from the V crucede in 1220. ⛪️ There are 5 monks living there and opening the door of the Monastery and the island 🙏 You can spend a weekend in the island with the monks in meditation, prayers and looking after the beautiful gardens.
