RUTH’S TIPS: Don’t be afraid of public transportation in Europe…but it helps to prepare first! I just took a train from Zurich Airport (Flughafen Zürich) to Zurich city center (Zurich HB) which is easy and affordable. I do recommend preparing a little bit, like knowing how to say ‘airport’ in German 😜, to make the experience of buying your ticket easier. This advice is recommended when you are traveling in Italy: for example, FLORENCE is FIRENZE. Also, Italian cities like Milan, Florence, Rome, and even LA SPEZIA, have multiple city stops so you need to know the name of the MAIN TRAIN STATION. La Spezia is easy: La Spezia Centrale. The main train station for Florence is “Firenze Santa Maria Novella”. If you prepare even a bit before you travel, everything is easier. ⚠️Did you know that Italy has banned self-check-in and key boxes? ⚠️ There is a new STRICT interpretation of the 1931 Italian law that requires hospitality providers, including vacation rental hosts, to collect guest identification details AND perform in-person check-ins, rather than allowing self-check-in and/or key boxes. This means guests will need to meet their host or a rental agency representative to complete the check-in process. For our 2025 guests, we can meet at the Vernazza train station and I can accompany you to our apartments. 👀 STAY TUNED because it’s Italy. Forget “shoulder season”! Know why? Italy is becoming a country-wide destination of HIGH season and LOW season. For example: in Cinque Terre and Puglia. Late October and November are great times to travel to discover the beauty (and lower prices) of Puglia in the Off-Season. You should be flexible since the weather is unpredictable, with the possibility of rain. We have been lucky in Cinque Terre and Puglia this year: warm, sunny days (short sleeve T-shirts!) and cool evenings (silk blouse + wool sweater + jacket). Ruth’s Tips: Did you know… 🚂 The train is the easiest way to get to and around Cinque Terre. 🆕 ➡️ The digital regional train ticket is now automatically validated at the departure time of the train. You NO LONGER have to do the digital check in.
